  1. The set is really coming together Dave. I like the wrap you did around the top and that shovel looks real good. Did you hot cut down the center of the bar to make the shovel? or use a bandsaw? and did you take pictures of the process? Keep the pictures coming. Really good work and a good showcase of your skill level. You said this is going to a shop? for display? or their use? Adam
  2. Impressive. Very well thought out. Can't wait to see the finished product and more progress shots. Adam
  3. I agree with Drewed. Firstly, do not format the card if you want to try and recover the photos. next... If you haven't already tried. Take the batteries out of the camera, put them back in, turn on camera. If that works, great! if not... Take card out and batteries out. Everything back in and turn on. If that works, great! if not... Take card out and put into another card reader or camera (same brand would be good) and see what that says. If that doesn't work, find someone you know who may have data recovery software and see if they can have a look at the card and if any data is recoverable. Adam
  4. It's a pity you didn't go with lapped and capped. Then you could have forged up some nice wicked looking spikes to line the top of the fence, just to let him know how you feel. :D
  5. J.A. Nearest International would be Sydney. Then about 3+ hour drive down from there. One of us would be able to pick you up on the way down I am sure. Or you could catch a flight from Sydney to Canberra and then an hour drive east from there. Not sure who could pick you up from Canberra. Adam
  6. Happy birthday today Andrew. Hope you had a good one.
I see Juliet sent you a message too.
    Adam

  7. Alan If you want to talk to him in person. I looked up Hugh in white pages (Phone book) here. You will have to add the international prefix (08) 9293 1487, and account for the time difference (or he may never speak to you again.) Good luck. Adam
  8. I would go with the herbs making the "stinky" water more pleasant on the nose and depending on the type of herb, it would help keep mozzies away too.
  9. Well, if your going to add a power hammer down the track, how big a power hammer? If it's going to be relatively small you wont need too much room, if it's going to be a monster, then you will have to leave a nice big chuck of space free. Allow room for the slab of reinforced concrete to support it and make sure that side of the smithy can have the wall taken down so you can just roll it in with little fuss and drop it in place. Adam
  10. My advice for all it is worth is, "keep it simple". By that I mean ask your father what he wants if he could build a smithy. If it is supposed to be a surprise, then you will have to get your hands dirty. Read a few books on Blacksmithing and compare recuring items and placement/layout. Complete Modern Blacksmith would be a start. Visit a few Blacksmiths and look at their Smithy. Add to that suggestions you get from this thread. I would go with finding out from him what he wants first. Then steal.. I mean borrow all the good ideas you come across and incorporate those into the design. Good luck with the build and take plenty of progress photos for posting on here. Adam
  11. OddDuck I have been watching this thread with interest. Now that your at a stage close to mass production, have you worked out a costing? for a mould kit and a finished product? Well done on your efforts so far. Now all you need is to make portable rivet forges and stands for both, and you have covered the market! Adam
  12. Very nice Mr HOFFMAN How heavy a unit is it? Cost to make? Are you going to produce these commercially? If you want to send me one for testing, I would not say no. Adam
  13. Brilliant! Love those handles. Very sweet looking set mate! :)
  14. For display or for use? For display I guess it don't matter much.
  15. Ian Fantastic looking fish! Do you think you could knock up a steel hook with a little worm sitting on it to hang out in front of it? Adam
  16. Looking good Fe I agree with Bigfoot, most certainly needs a darker stain with those nicely forged frames. Giving it a distressed look is up to you. Can't wait to see the finished product. (pun intended) Adam
  17. Great looking Benches so far Fe Dimensions of stock used and bench seats? As for the question of putting backs on them. I would go with not putting backs on them. But if the walls they are going up against are bare, perhaps you could put a false back! like a bit of wall art in the shape of a back that sits slightly above but does not join to the bench. Hmmmm..... Have I got you thinking about it yet? Adam
  18. Great looking mirror. Does it come with the dog? :D
  19. David My thanks to you and the model for posting the pics of the stick in use. Looks great! I will have to have a crack at making one next time at the forge. Adam
  20. Jeremy K does great corkscrews and he makes it look easy. Now all we have to do is convince him to do a short video of it and post it on youtube. :)
  21. David Excellent idea. Unfortunately that third photo of the sticks in the hair is so small, its hard to make out. Any chance of a few close ups of it in use? Also what kind of finish will/have you put on it? e.g. paint them a colour or clear finish like bees wax, or something else? Thanks for sharing Adam
  22. Mr Hale An excellent knife. I very much like the way you continued on the antler pattern onto the steel at either end of the handle. An impressive piece. Adam
