  8. if your fathers a boiler maker why not build an anvil ,weld up scrap top off with forklift tine lots built up anvils out there, check out search option hear, google, anvilfire ect.would save alot of money especially if you could get it welded up for the cost of scrap + rods + beer.hear are pics of scrap i collected over 3+ years costing 0,weighing 101 kg one day soon i hope to have time(pre heat ect)and ability(practice) and equipment(15a outlet) to weld up.
  9. hi all thought you might like to see some australian forge gear, its all made by rapid sydney and was bought by the sellers granddad. the blower is a rapid b and is 10" across, it revs at 40 to 1,the blower can also be used with the fire pot using an additional pipe and the short cast pipe work pictured, with or without legs. the seller said the kit was bought 1 blower 2 forges (one forge being portable) and remembers turning the blower while his granddad forged. i was very very happy to get this gear, fire pots and forge blowers are hard to get hear in australia i have looked for a long time hope you enjoy the pics.

  13. thanks, keep it coming.can you give more in fo on your burner dimentions ect thanks again
  14. Hi Corin Mat from hot sunny and drying-out Brisbane. My question re- propane is many appliances have a small screw to disrupt the flow of propane and air, improving the mix. Would an atmospheric burner benefit from this or do the higher PSI's involved make this redundant? Thank you.
  15. is an anvil the heaviest of all hand tools?,is it a hand tool?. if not a hand tool is it the heaviest non powered with non moving parts tool?just a thought
  16. build it and they will come,$40 mill ish
  17. every man needs a vise.
  18. Thank you, thank you all. Great advice and more than I could ever poke a stick at. I think I will hold off on the welding as I am currently in a rental property and don't have the ability to do the pre and post heating required. So I'll put this one on the back burner. I am quite keen to see the job through myself though but that might be a year or so away. I'm a patient man, I was prepared to file my own one inch hardy hole. Thanks again all.
  19. hey i lost that when i was walking my dog.where do you live again its redish blueish black right.good find
  20. hi JosephPrivott yes big job on hardy new file make sure it has a safe edge so you dont dig in to the face next to were you are working on,just hard work.i drilled 9(8mm broke my 10mm)times then managed to get a hacksaw blade in then cut as much as i could a lot of very shallow cuts, cutting a peice the size of a match stick is easier than filing same i think.i was going to cut area under the hardy off but thought i could use it,it gives mass under the hardy and another point of contact to the main body.
  21. hi all hear is my take on a scrap build.the small blocks are 24cm*12cm*6cm,the big block is 37cm*41.5cm*8cm,face(forklift tine)is 44.5cm*10cm*4.5cm.over all height 31cm or 12",i dont know the total weight should be around 70kg ish.hardy is 1"(drilled/hand filed).i already have a london pat anvil so i dont need a horn but i may add one later?,i am a very novice welder what advice would you all give. ie should i grind bevels for better penetration?what rods,i have acsess to a 275 amp stick welder but not sure i should make this my first big welding job??? thanks for looking.
