  3. Dito what charlotte says and yes we called it a poor mans mill in the shops i worked.
  4. Learn the old and new but learn the old now the old machinists are diapearing fast. We have a great loss of knowledge going on. Im in that generation and my friends are droping fast.
  5. Heres another use for old hot water tanks they make great reserve storage tanks on air systems with little work. any compressor made of cast iron is a good bet for rebilds and long life anvil just proved it.
  6. Just a quick sea tale. when the Enterprise was going through her second overhaul the ship yard couldnt find a wt door that was suppose to be on the ships drawings. So they cut a hole to see what was what, There were no door way was ever cut was a machine shop fully outfitted no one knew about. These big boys are cities unto them selves

    Go"s to show you how much of our heavy industry is gone. I worked in forgeing plants in the 90s most, Press" were antiques that were rebuilt and had modern controls they still werent past there prime. This was drop forgeing buy the way not to confuse.

  11. Use to work for wood company that pressure treated lumber. Had a large chamber that they immersed the wood in then pressuruzed it to 130 psi with air for a hour then took out to dry. Hope the concept helps.
  12. Ive found serveral old mills that are worn and cant mill any more can still be a good drill press. If you look around some machine shops a lot of guys just throw them in the corner or out back when replaced.
  13. For the price of that wheel you can get a used die grinder and a lot of scotch brite to do a good polish job.

    There were knives issued and bought by all servicemen through out the war. If a company made knives they made them for the troops. the mark 1 was a need it now knife. What could be made now was bought and issued from all kinds of manufacturers. The mark 2 is the knife that the marines named and made famous called a kbar. Made buy the major knife companies. You can find kbars stamped usn as well as usmc. If you are looking for washers or sheaths brallen@npgcable.com has left over stock he sells. I have a mk2 usn from that era best all around knife ever made.
