March 23, 20251 yr I'm interested in getting a more reliable and easy-to-work CA glue solution than tiny tubes of super glue. I like the idea of a medium thickness glue with an activator spray. What I'd really like is to support a good business and avoid the onslaught of Amazon (and Google SEO recommended) options. I'm welcome to suggestion and stories about what what works best for you when making things. Note: If this topic was already discussed, then apologies. Currently when I try to search, the website throws an error.
March 23, 20251 yr The built in search is pretty much useless. Use your favorite search engine with the subject such as "glue/ifrorgeiron". I have a tube of super glue in my tool box to stop the bleeding, other than that no experience so i can not help on that end.
March 25, 20251 yr He wants to glue his hand in your wallet Gewoon, he is a marketer spamming the forum every once in a while is his job. Frosty The Lucky.
March 26, 20251 yr What works best for me is welding, either in the forge or torch or electric arc. After all I am a blacksmith so I don't "glue" projects together. I can’t control the wind. All I can do is adjust my sails. ~Semper Paratus~

My wallet he can have. What is inside not. I need my old discount card from the snackbar from back in my studentyears!
March 26, 20251 yr My student ID card from forty years ago, when I was taking blacksmithing classes at the Philadelphia College of Art (later the University of the Arts, now -- alas -- closed): It gets a laugh these days, but sadly no snack bar discounts.
March 26, 20251 yr In belgium we have (only till 2030) still paper driving license (if you are old enough) For a lifetime. Very funny after 30+ years the picture is useless. Need to "lose" it before asking a new one. Otherwise the history is gone forever and it will be a plastic card.
March 26, 20251 yr When Deb and I renewed our driver's licenses we were issued "Real ID" which is encased in plastic, has of bar codes holographic codes, chip, etc. The USA is or has instituted a national ID card which includes driving and other things. Frosty The Lucky.
March 26, 20251 yr Strictly speaking, it's a national standard that governs state-issued ID cards. The only "national ID card" in the US is the card version of the US passport, and even that's optional for passport holders.
March 26, 20251 yr Not so John, my "driver's license" is Real ID. It was explained carefully when Deb and I got our licenses renewed. We did it the same day so our renewals are simultaneous. Public service announcements on TV and radio call them that too. It's the ONLY driver's license issued in the much or all of the USA and has been in Alaska for a few years. The deadline to acquire "Real ID" in the USA is May 7 2025. In spite of it's expiration date, your old driver's license will no longer be valid as ID and maybe not to drive legally. I wish you were right John but times are a changing. You might want to check with DMV. Frosty The Lucky.
March 27, 20251 yr Real ID is not a national ID card, as it is not issued by the federal government. It’s a national *standard* mandated by the federal government that the various state governments (the authorities that actually issue the driver’s licenses) have to conform to. The May 7 deadline is also the date that Real ID-compliant licenses becomes mandatory for getting on US domestic flights. As someone who flies frequently for work, this is something I’ve been paying attention to for some years now.
March 27, 20251 yr Sounds like semantics John. A Real ID "Compliant" driver's license IS Real ID with a driver's license endorsement. However Real ID may not have a driver's endorsement for any number of reasons, say loss of privileges for multiple DWI or other violations. The last two times I flew people with old school driver's licenses were sitting waiting while their licenses were run through federal and police bases, like NCIC. I'm blanking on the other major one. My Real ID "AKDL" was run through the scanner while I faced the camera and I was cleared in maybe 15 seconds. It may not be issued by the federal gvt. but it MUST be federally compliant. Same same. Frosty The Lucky.
March 27, 20251 yr Not the "same same". A national ID card by definition is issued by a national government; a federally compliant state ID card is still a state ID card. Without getting into partisan politics (an IFI no-no), it's worth noting that the US's long history of tension between federal supremacy and state sovereignty would make the issuance of a national ID card a REALLY BIG DEAL. The Department of Homeland Security itself explicitly states on its REAL ID FAQ page (in the "Is DHS trying to build a national database with all of our information?" section): Quote REAL ID is a national set of standards, not a national identification card. The FBX Center for Health and Human Rights at Harvard University has an interesting blog post about this: A Brief History of National ID Cards. Different states have different rules about ID cards and driver's licenses, but I'm not personally familiar with any that have an ID card with a driver's license endorsement. For example, both Ohio (my current residence) and Vermont* (the state where I got my first driver's license) have both ID cards and driver's licenses, but they are mutually exclusive. That is to say, ID cards are ONLY for non-drivers, but it's possible to get a REAL ID-compliant ID card for non-drivers who want to get on a domestic flight after May 7, 2025. "Enhancements", on the other hand, are for drivers who are certified to operate special kinds of motor vehicles, such as motorcycles or certain classes of commercial vehicle. *Interestingly, Vermont is one of five states that also issues an "Enhanced Driver's License" that DHS considers an acceptable substitute for a passport or a REAL ID when entering the US by land or sea from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, or Bermuda.
March 27, 20251 yr Real ID is NOT a nationally ISSUED card but it MUST contain certain federally mandated information. Playing semantic games doesn't change anything and linking a HARVARD blog as evidence is probably a violation of the "No Politics" rule. Harvard is hardly an unbiased source. I've had enough of this topic, believe what and how you wish. Frosty The Lucky.
March 28, 20251 yr Which is too bad as a constitutional republic requires a public both educated and willing to discuss. --Larry (who lacks a punny-bone)
March 28, 20251 yr Agreed but no comment Larry. Don't want to get pasted in the pun thread, eh? Frosty The Lucky.
March 29, 20251 yr Larry, i absolutely agree. However i spend a lot of time on politics. I am a vet and my dad is a vet so it is a well versed subject for us. That is why i cherish the "no politics" policy here. I can come and discuss matters of blacksmithing with out the interruption. I do get an idea of political leaning but i love the fact i can call most here a friend and have no idea where they fall. Like grandpa always said "politics and religion have no place in polite conversation". Talking politics has gotten so bad and out of hand that i deleted me account at my favorite conspiracy sight over it. It went from bigfoot, aliens, moon landings, to almost all politics. I do not actually believe the vast majority of conspiracy theories, they are just fun to read about and politics has taken the fun out. As long as we adhere to policy rules we can form a tight bond that will cement friendships unite us as a group. (ok i may be done after that one).
