JHCC
My local industrial surplus place has a listing on their website for a bench vise on a welded stand. I think I might make something like this for my big Columbian that's not currently mounted to anything.
swedefiddle
When you mount a Vice, make the stationary jaw at least parallel with the edge of the bench or stand. This allows you to stand up a long piece and be straight in the Jaws. Just a thought ahead of the head slap (Why didn't I think of that). There is no such thing as a perfect configuration, but you can get close sometimes!! Neil
Dabbsterinn
standalone bench vises are great. my friend mounted his on a three-legged stand very similar to my anvil stand and it's wonderful to work with but a bit on the light side as it tends to move when we tighten the handle properly so that's something that's something to keep in mind
Frosty
I've been going to mount one of my lesser vises no a Gozinta so I could mount it securely almost anywhere I needed it in the shop. Unfortunately even my lightest bench vise is danged heavy to be pulling up and dragging around. Still. . . Frosty The Lucky.

JHCC
Update: I did end up making just such a stand for my big Columbian: I might nip one of the corners off the top to provide clearance for long workpieces, if I find that I need to. And to wrap the story up, someone bought the stand shown in the top post for $125 and is now selling it on FB Marketplace for $475. Not a bad price, and not a bad profit. JHCC
Turns out to be good for a couple of quick cuts on the bench shear.
