TWISTEDWILLOW
I got these thrown in with some stuff I bought the other day, the jaws look like they used to have teeth like pliers do, one rein has a flathead on the end, the only stamp is the number 12,
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
I have heard of them as gas fitters pliers. My grandfather gave me a pair and called them water pump pliers, still have it and they come in useful in the shop.
JHCC
I've got a couple pairs in two different sizes. I used the bigger ones at the forge for a while, until I got some proper tongs. They still come in handy as pliers, although I have yet to do any gas fitting with them.
TWISTEDWILLOW
Thanks Irondragon! Ive got lots of old tools ive dragged home but I was stumped on what these were, JHCC, I’m sure they will probably set around till the day comes when I need that one weird tool to hold something and then they’ll come in handy an save the day! Frazer
I could see them holding lots of different things. Various sizes of rings immediately come to mind. I adjusted and old pair of flat jaws recently to something similar to those. Not quite as nice, but similar. Nice score!
ThomasPowers
Gas fitters pliers and from the looks of the rivet, one of the lower grades. I find them handy around the forge; just used a pair to twist my barbwire baskets. I have a set of various pliers dedicated for hot work: gate post, water pump, needle nose, gas fitters; I have them hanging on a small steel wheel so I can grab the set I need for what I'm doing. There are others in the clean shop that are NOT to be used on hot stuff!
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Mine are used mostly to hold short hot chisels and punches.
