Francis Trez Cole
In the last few years I have seen Copper layered in to a knife blade. I get the principle. Has anyone ever used Brass? It has a lower melting point so in theory it should work. To that point you could use both in different layers . I am planning to play with it soon any tips would be appreciated. anvil
can you give some places to go for layering copper in a knife blade? I understand braising and inlay. Im assuming you mean something different than this.
Bonnskij
I think he's referring to what commonly goes by cu mai these days. Laminated blade steel where there is a layer of copper between the steel layers.
Frosty
It'd be akin to solid phase welding done for Mokume Gane done at temps close to brazing but not quite. Were I messing with it I'd do the higher melt color layers first. Might contact James Binnion, of Mokume Gane.com fame and see what he thinks. Last I checked he was doing things I would've sworn were impossible like Wrought iron and gold billets. It's been years so I imagine he's doing even more unlikely combinations. Frosty The Lucky.
