Preston B
I am new to black smithing and would like to start on a coal forge. Does anyone have any recommendations on what a good one to buy would be?
Charles R. Stevens
Well unless one imports a side blast from England I would suggest building one. Easy enugh to do with dirt and a bit of pipe. From there you can modify it until you get it just right.

pnut
I think I would rather build one than buy one. Pnut
ThomasPowers
There are sources to buy cast iron firepots for coal forges; but in general new stuff is quite expensive and improvised stuff can work extremely well. Knowing if you want to forge anchors or ear rings would help. Buying just a new firepot for my large forge would run over US$250 last time I checked; but my home built forge ran me $3 and has been running for several decades right now. Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
There is one for sale right now in the Tailgating section. I would buy it in a heart beat, if it were closer to me to pick it up and I didn't already have 3 with another under construction. Don't know if the seller is willing to ship but the freight would be rather expensive.
