Frosty Posted November 30, 2025 Posted November 30, 2025 You're dodging the point by going into unnecessary detail in an attempt to steer the thread in a different direction. We've beaten this horse to much already. Tell yourself what you need to. Jer Quote
jlpservicesinc Posted November 30, 2025 Author Posted November 30, 2025 Sorry, I'm confused.. On both threads you asked about marital arts??? I'm not sure now about what you are asking or saying. I believed I was picking up what you were putting down. Quote
Frosty Posted November 30, 2025 Posted November 30, 2025 You obviously didn't pick up what I meant, only what I said. I did not change the subject, I only mentioned the arts as an example. Nor did I ask about the arts, the question was Socratic method it was intended to get YOU to think about what you said and why. If you wish to discuss things more PM me. Frosty The Lucky. Quote
jlpservicesinc Posted November 30, 2025 Author Posted November 30, 2025 Frosty, I very much appreciate your knowledge.. It's the reason I ask you questions on things I know nothing about. If I'm having to PM you to discuss something, then it seems to me it's something you don't want to post publicly. I have nothing to hide, and if I misunderstood the points you're trying to make, I've got nothing. It means I am not following your logic stream.. No more, no less.. simply disregard my reply or statement. I don't feel one way or the other. If you feel as though it would be educational then please do send me a PM.. I'd love to have you help me on the journey. Very generous for you to offer. Quote
Frosty Posted November 30, 2025 Posted November 30, 2025 It was a suggestion to YES avoid embarrassing you. What you don't understand is way more basic than blacksmithing or the subjects being discussed. I WILL admit I don't like appearing as being mean. Your call. Frosty The Lucky. Quote
jlpservicesinc Posted November 30, 2025 Author Posted November 30, 2025 frosty I don't get embarrassed. Post away. Please be my guest. Quote
Frosty Posted November 30, 2025 Posted November 30, 2025 Okay. You don't know the meaning of the words you use or how to put a sentence together. This means you have trouble understanding plain simple English. In our last little misunderstanding you ignored the subject of my statement and started arguing points of the thing you did know about. I used a martial arts reference because I know you have a grounding but you misunderstood simply because you didn't recognize an "Example" as different from a "Subject." The Subject is the REASON for the statement's existence. Perhaps I should've used the word Topic but . . . Make sense? Frosty The Lucky. Quote

I dont have the ability to make connections in conversations nor in writing if its not pointed out. You need to be explicit with a question or point. I dont speculate on anything nor assume. The phone is in my hand right now. Even if I think about an orange. Its still a phone. I did not see your "subject" though I did think it was about Ninjutsu though I was apparently wrong. Sorry. After the fact i thought it was like asking someone insencerly "How are you" while really just hoping they dont answer. Sorry you felt it was argumentative.. Not sure why your feeling that way. Your not wrong. I am not an English major, nor a linguistics expert. I've passed college writing 2 with a B+ 38yrs ago. Lol. Class started with 35students. This professor was extremely tough. On the last day of class there were 5 left including me. 30students dropped it. Some of the students had been thru this class 2 or 3 times and dropped it the other times to. I did want to say.. You have been extremely helpful with forum discussions. You, Anvil, Thomas.. You guys really helped me a lot.. So appreciated.. I reached out to Anvil and never heard back.. I was worried about him. Frosty Posted December 1, 2025 Posted December 1, 2025 I'll have to give this some thought, I've never really done this before. Jer Quote

jlpservicesinc Posted December 5, 2025 Author Posted December 5, 2025 Last few days have been slow. We got hit with a snow storm and it depresses me since I have to work in it. I did find the gumption to pull out some 1/8" sheet and mark it out and today I machined the seat for the oil seal. This blower oil cover is coming out great. First time building such a thing. I will plasma cut out the cover and weld it in place after I verify the standoff height. I'd like to be able to replace the oil seal by removing the pulley only leaving the cover in place yhen using a pulley or screw grab the seal from the outside and pull it. Install the new seal in place.. I was thinking originally about fillet weld with the holder mounted proud of the cover. Now im thinking drill a hole large enough and do a face butt weld. Quote

Jennifer, I've been thinking about it a lot since my last post but I just don't have the education or tools to do much but answer questions or maybe explain a few things. I was a poor English student, I learn from context not rules. Maybe if we explain what the heck we meant things will get better. I'll do my best to remember. Okay? Frosty The Lucky. Quote
jlpservicesinc Posted December 5, 2025 Author Posted December 5, 2025 Frosty thank you, and sounds great. Maybe this has been part of the problem all along.. Human interaction is too random. When I look at a gear box I know it's a gearbox.. seeing the relationship between the gears is easy. Quote
Frosty Posted December 5, 2025 Posted December 5, 2025 Human interaction is anything BUT random. Nobody who isn't ill does anything without a reason. Saying is Doing. No? When I reread that sentence I had to slap myself on the head. Ill IS a reason, a very good reason. Here is a valuable trick you might want to take up. I re-read and edit everything I post, usually 2-3 times, sometimes many over a couple days. I edit until what it says on the screen is as close to what I wanted others to hear as I can make it. Editing is a learned skill but in general isn't difficult and the more a person does it the better they get. Make sense? Machinery is generally easier to read. However bear in mind it was designed by a human so we get things like 1960s automatic transmissions. Frosty The Lucky. Quote
jlpservicesinc Posted December 6, 2025 Author Posted December 6, 2025 Your not wrong based on your experiences. There is no such thing as random meeting nor conversations. It doesn't mean there is freedom. What you mentioned is exactly what I do. Being misunderstood is part of the journey. Quote
Frosty Posted December 6, 2025 Posted December 6, 2025 I see I wasn't plain enough. Good communication skills require the author to make themselves as understandable as possible. It is a skill that practice improves. "Being misunderstood is part of the journey." Is an excuse. Making yourself as understandable as possible is a skill You asked me to help you with. The word "Journey" the way you use it so often is a filler word with no useful meaning in a statement. Amorphous noise meant to make it SOUND like there is some spiritual meaning. Something to distract the reader from the author not having anything to say. Your entire post above is nothing but similar excuses. Dissecting my statements to find inconsequential details you can qualify to your own ends will not work on me. Get out your dictionary, look up all the words I used that you don't understand and post an honest reply. Use or get a bound dictionary, do NOT look it up online. A person needs a better vocabulary than you have to find the real meanings and uses of words on online dictionaries. They tend to be very shallow to match the modern instant gratification generation. For example check the statistics on college grads that can NOT do basic math. Our local 5+ year old library with online oriented everything still has a gloriously huge dictionary and an entire case of encyclopedia. If you have trouble with alphabetized tables of contents and an "index" that lets you look up individual things in the book. Say "Diamond Willow" so you don't have to start at tree or bush and search. Start in the children's section, I do that frequently when breaking into an unfamiliar topic. Frosty The Lucky. Quote
jlpservicesinc Posted December 7, 2025 Author Posted December 7, 2025 Frosty. Your a good dude. I appreciate you making the suggestions.. Thank you.. I was able to get the gear cover done today. Still not the right seal, should be here Monday. But this will allow for me to get the gear case buttoned up and oil in it. The main idea is to get it sealed up for winter. If once the cover is on and we have a day that is decent I'll give it a firing now that all the gauges are installed.. I Should be able to get it dialed in. Burn range is from .79gph to 2.00 gph IIRC. This size of furnace might be to large to do cast iron for the burn rate. Time will tell. Quote
Bull Sigh Posted December 7, 2025 Posted December 7, 2025 Great work and photos. Keep on keepin' on. Quote
jlpservicesinc Posted December 8, 2025 Author Posted December 8, 2025 Thanks Bull, I got it fitted, oil drain put in with 1/8" NPT plug, I was able to get the pulley off the drive motor to get the alignment adjusted.. It was so rusted. I've got probably another hr before it's operational. I'm running motor oil in the gear case for the first run up. I'll drain it after a few burns.. I tried to get the gear box side as clean as possible but there was a lot of rust dust, oil oil residue and such. I tried to clean it 6 or 7x.. Problem is the ooz inside would just blow around vs out.. So a few oil changes will do wonders. According to USPS tracking, seals should be here tomorrow. I decided to pull the old seal before installing the cover and this will expedite installing the new one tomorrow. I was able to get the motor pulley cleaned up on mounted back on the motor.. Of course now it's like it's new.. Also had to fix the sq key, and install a new set screw. Quote
Bull Sigh Posted December 8, 2025 Posted December 8, 2025 "So a few oil changes will do wonders." Agreed, combined with the right load, good oil delivery, etc. I've seen engines and drive trains recover after huge abuse and neglect. Ultimately, wear and tear takes all, but TLC extends life. The weather is getting hostile here. Getting work done will take focus the next few months. Good time to hunker down and set priorities. Quote
jlpservicesinc Posted December 10, 2025 Author Posted December 10, 2025 Bull blessings. I work outside and winter get less and less fun. On another forum I frequent one person mentioned these blowers are nearly bomb proof. They use them for ventilation so they get dust in them. The way they clean them is they dump water in while running. I fired it up yesterday with less than the results hoped for. My electrical supply is lack luster for a 3hp 120v motor. I was hoping to stay 120v but my current cord is 10awg 150ft long. To long with to much drop and average pull to maintain full speed with thickened oil in gear box. New oil seal installed. Of course it was 10F here yesterday. But.. Well, if hunkerin down is in your future. Enjoy. My schedule doesn't change with the seasons. Just output. 20251208_121100.mp4 Quote
Frosty Posted December 10, 2025 Posted December 10, 2025 The weather isn't doing you any favors. Ours is just heading for hard cold though not as cold as it was 50 years ago though. Still it's -5f and falling as sunrise approaches. Do what we do up here, use a synthetic gear oil, they do not get stiffer as the temp drops and drop wear particles easily so if you use a magnetic drain plug it'll clean up the old rust and wear particles you couldn't clean yourself. It took me some delving a few years ago to make sense of multi weight oils. How can oil be 10w when it's cold and 40w when it's at engine operating temperature? I don't know what the oil companies were thinking to use that kind of description but it's physically impossible for a liquid to the thicker as it gets hotter. What 10-40w oil actually means is the 10w viscosity oil has the lubricating film strength of a 40w petroleum oil standard. In truth synthetics change viscosity VERY little with temp. The price of a quart might scare a body but when you consider the modern synthetics can go tens of thousands of miles and not degrade it's really cheap. A quick search hit 75-90 gear oil ranging around $12.00 to $22. / quart. The thicker viscosity is so the oil sticks to gears and doesn't need to be slung in the case to lube everything AND provides some shock cushioning between gear cogs. Unlike internal combustion engines which experience mostly sliding friction and are lubricated by pressure so thinner oil is necessary. Synthetics also don't degrade seal rubber like petroleum oils so your seals will last a long darned time, IF the shafts are polished. Frosty The Lucky. Quote
Bull Sigh Posted December 12, 2025 Posted December 12, 2025 "I work outside and winter get less and less fun." I hear you. I'm old now and have less go-juice to keep me warm. We've had some days around 0 to 10F this fall and I've managed to get out and do a little work, mostly cutting and splitting firewood, but I just can't put in long days when the temps are below about 20. It's hard to believe I used to do winter mountaineering and ice climbing on big peaks. I guess I've just gone soft in my old age. Not losing sleep about it... Quote
Rojo Pedro Posted December 12, 2025 Posted December 12, 2025 I feel for you folks that live in the cold regions. For me its the heat, I worked outside for most of my career here in Tucson and as a young man it was never too hot as long as you hydrated. As I got older the summers were harder to take and really hot days would wear me out. Now as a part timer, we make sure we get done with field work before noon in the summer. But at least it is not painful like cold weather is...(74 and 43 here today sorry for your luck :-) Quote
