Jspool Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 I found this 8” post vise at a swap meet today. Almost no identifying marks. Can it be an Iron City? This might be a makers mark. Its only around a half inch in size. The line is just a line in the metal. Not a crack. Quote
DanL. Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 Did you go to that antique tractor show and swap meet today in Shelton? How was it? I thought about going just to look at that vice. Quote
Ranchmanben Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 Boy am I jealous! I don’t necessarily need a vise that big but I want one in a pretty bad way. Can’t help you with the maker but is sure looks good. Quote
Daswulf Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 Nice big vise! Doubt it's anything to do but maybe. ( it is a lil different but similar) but my mousehole anvil from pre mid 1830's has this stamp. Not saying its a mousehole, but? Just that mark made me think of the one on my anvil. Quote
Jspool Posted April 29, 2018 Author Posted April 29, 2018 Yep. The Shelton Swap meet. Too bad it was raining. I would have liked to talk to more of the engine guys more. Interesting that your mousehole has that stamp. I’ll have to check mine. Quote
ThomasPowers Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 Not the same stamp as the vise if I'm counting the "petals" correctly Quote
Jspool Posted April 29, 2018 Author Posted April 29, 2018 Based upon the chamfered corners and rams horn mount type, I’m guessing English made early to mid 19th century? Quote
