I started at google as if you type in gas forges uk, you basically get swan forges and the rest are wholesalers of gas forges (normally swan too), such as Stromsholme etc and then you get the american manufcaturers hence why i put this post out too see if anybody on the coal face knew of any other companies manufacturing them in the uk. There was a blog on here in 2012 which stated no one over here was in the business apart from Swan.

I would guess it's because they are expensive (starting around $1000). They are aimed more at professional users really. Also as with all things, the company have to ensure that manufactured standards meet with local regs etc before selling to the public - all adds to the costs.

Are you asking as a purchaser or a potential seller?

Hi Drew,

As Glen suggested, add you location to your profile which helps to shape other's responses to you.

Mikey's comment about Flamefast reminds me that Vaughan's Hope Works sells their ceramic chip hearths and also a funny little gas forge.

Although I do not have one of Cecil's (he is an old friend...very old!) Swan forges, I know lots of people who do and they are extremely robust and efficient.

I make my own and I prefer blown burners and heavy castable liners...more appropriate for my work, but like all things to do with optimum tools, they have advantages and disadvantages depending on the work you wish to use them for.

You need to tell us what sort of work you wish to do if you want specific advice.

for gas forges in the UK, there is also Castree Kilns. They are a pottery supplier and I get most of my refractory products from them, as well as having a couple of their burners in my forges. They did make a few forges, but I don't know if they still do

Hi i am asking as a potential seller, part of our family group of engineering companies is a well established (50+ years) specialist kiln and furnace manufacturing company and i am looking at expanding our range into the portable lpg type furnace industry, aiming at various markets including farriers and the education sector etc.
