casting frames of some sort?  Just a guess based on how we used to gang up molds, clamp them together and do a pour down the top.  Any signs of spaces for sprues/vents?

They remind me of the frames that contain the cider cheese bags in a cider press...they both look like they can squeeze whatever is in each of the frames...though no good for cider of course being iron.

They most likely had a use in mining. My town was established on the discovery of lode tin and, later, alluvial tin.  A lot of our scrap was sourced from the local area. Some have suggested a filter press of some kind. No signs of any vents, Thomas.

And what are these swages (?) used for? I imagine some kind of device for fire welding a cross???
