April 19, 20179 yr S i've seen many posts on lining forges and firepot depth and all such manner of things but how do you determine a good height to have your forge at ? i know with anvil it's knuckles with slack arm but never seen a discussion of forge height anywhere
April 20, 20179 yr Depending on how tall you are but 31 to 34 inches seem to be the standard. I like mine to be waist high.
April 20, 20179 yr grab a bar of steel and stick in the fire horizontally---what height makes that happen automatically? Some people like to have their forge and anvil the same height so you can rest long pieces on each other.
April 20, 20179 yr as standard I make them 30" that way the legs fit inside the box for shipping, other heights to order
April 20, 20179 yr One of my friends' forge is only up to just below his knee. That's where he likes it. Mine is up to about my waist. I think it's really all personal preference, just like anvil height.

I believed that to be correct and it was a back killer. I ended up at wrist height and my back is now OK.
