Going to shorten up the stump an inch. She left her mark :-)  Thats only usage. No torch etc.

Could just rout and drop it back down there...

        You might consider just using a router to drop the anvil just an inch. The set down into the anvil pattern works exceptionally well and you will only need a small bracket for a hold down. I have several that I have done this way.

Kinda surprised nobody said "forge a chisel and then tap it out with that!"

That stump could have a lot of slag and other metal in the wood that could tear up a cutting edge.

Could always cut the inch off the bottom.
