Rugburn
I just picked these up from an estate sale. not sure what they are but they are HEAVY. My thought is to use them as an anvil to light forge and form steel or make a power hammer out of them. But what are they? they have a "L" and "R" on them. some kind of die or something. never seen anything like them. I also got lucky and picked up a jar of ? Don't think it is graphite the glass is clean. im hoping it's powdered steel. Is there a way to tell? thank you for any knowledge. ThomasPowers
Looks more like silicon carbide than powdered steel, a magnet will tell.
Rugburn
it's not magnetic is that usable in damascus steel?
JerryCarroll
I hope it's not blasting powder in the jar!
gote
The jar loks like porphyr (English spelling??) in which case it is quite valuable. A hard kind of rock that was popular for expensve pieces 200 years ago. I may be totally misled by he pic but check it and do not sell it cheaply. John McPherson
Looks like grit for a sand blaster.
ThomasPowers
Or for a rock tumbler; no it's not good for damascus.
gote
I finally got it. It is a glass jar with stuff in not an empty jar of shiny rock.
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
I think the two heavy steel pieces are tractor or fork lift counter weights.
