purplepacman
I'm a newbie guys so hoping you can help. I have an early (I think) 147# Hay Budden anvil that was originally from Ohio (as far as I know). The serial # is 7421. Any idea of the year manufactured ~ and any other info you can provide? It look like part of the stamping under the HB name includes CT?
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
1893 according to AIA. Hope you have read about not doing any grinding, milling or welding on the hardened face. If you edit your profile to show your location, you may be surprised how many members are near you and a lot of answers depend upon knowing where in the world you are located. That's an outstanding Hay Budden for sure.
purplepacman
Thank you so much! I will have to edit my profile. I'm in central Indiana, just west of Indianapolis. Appreciate you looking up the year made!

TWISTEDWILLOW
I know this is an old post and Jeffdaniel hasn’t visited since last fall but if your lurking as a guest, or for anyone else with the same numbers that’s curious, anvils in America list serial numbers 3001-9000 as made in 1893, on page 303. Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Welcome from the Ozark mountains. From the AIA list I have your anvil was made in 1907 (125001-150000) range of serial numbers. Do you have any pictures of it, we love pictures as long as they are not too large. Hope you have read about not doing any grinding, milling or welding on it's hardened steel face.
Hay Budden
For some reason the guy I had gotten this from painted it red
Frosty
She looks almost unused! Don't worry, the paint won't hurt it anvils are tough. In truth paint may have gone a long way towards it looking so good now. Frosty The Lucky.

Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Welcome from the Ozark mountains. Hope you have read about not doing any grinding, milling or welding to the hardened face, which unless done correctly, will cause more harm than good. Fawn Haven Forge
I was cleaning up a gifted to me anvil to mount to a newly fabricated stand and was wondering what the maker was. Looks like a Hay Budden 72# stamped A3110. Don't worry Irondragon, I only used a gentle rust remover disk . Does the A3110 mean American 1893? Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Welcome from the Ozark Mountains. Looks like a pretty good 72 pound Hay Budden to me. How did it do on the ring & rebound test? Serial number A3110 was made in 1918 the range for that year is A1-A12,000. The price was certainly right. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s.
