November 14, 201510 yr Hello, I am new to the forum and wanted to start forging. I am primarily interested in bladesmithing, but would also like to make small things for around the house. I built most of my furniture and would like to make fixtures, etc. I intend to build a small gas forge, with the intent to upgrade if I end up doing a lot of work. I will also probably buy steel for blades in order to work with a known steel. I am in need of a couple things, one, an anvil or equivalent. Being in Alaska and fairly new, I don't even know a scrapyard where I could get some steel that would work. Since I am primarily looking at blades and smaller work I am good with something like 4" x 4". The second thing I need is advice, so I would love to connect with some local guys who have been doing this for awhile. Thanks in advance for any feedback and info. This looks like a great resource from what I have seen.

November 30, 201510 yr After you learn to make a burner from Tristan load his anvil in your truck while he is distracted and you can get 2 things done at the same stop. If he sees this you may have to work on getting him distracted. be sure to come to our January meeting at Pat's .
