blokman
I've just purchased this interesting block, obviously it's some kind of swage block but has a anvil look about it also Any ideas of its use? It came from the far north of Scotland It came with this other block, again an interesting block, both weigh around 90kg each
njanvilman
Whatever their original intended use, they are very interesting pieces. I have never seen that kind of patterning before.
Charles R. Stevens
Indeed interesting. At first i thought the firt on had seen heavy use on one horn, but the second shot shows that it was intentinaly dished. Love the flux/sugar spoon indention The second looks to have been modified by grinding a dish next to the laddle form I can see alkinds of uses, for some one doing field work and demoes away from there main shop. the iron dwarf
well the scots are well known for not spending money, looks like someone wanted to get as many things as possible on a single swage block

John McPherson
Glasgow was one of the great shipyards in prior centuries, and that first canoe-shaped block does indeed look like a smallish shipyard block.
