June 7, 201412 yr Help ID this. Its 252lbs. 32 inches long 12 high and 5 wide. It has a deep stamped 3,8,or s on waist. The bottom is interesting to me. It looks like a form that's 1/4 inch thick then filled almost full. Why does the bottom look like that. Also the texture around the feet looks weird for being cast. Has "warranted" stamped on it. Might be more writing above that but I don't know. Its not in my possession so next time I see it I will try flour or paper and pencil trick. Whats this worth?
June 7, 201412 yr Apply some chalk/flour/baby powder on the side to highlight the writing. Not many makers used the "warranted" line.
June 7, 201412 yr Appears to have a forged wrought body - not cast. The base was made that way to theoretically sit on the narrow edge and be more stable - although it might have been milled after forging.
June 8, 201412 yr Hay Budden, just sold one like it. Not cast, forged base. The number on the waist is a inspectors stamp. Value? Need better pictures of the face. I just sold my 253lbs Hay Budden in good shape for $900. Could have gotten $1K but I had picked this one up at a good price and decided to pass some savings on to others.
June 8, 201412 yr The "Hourglass" indentation on the bottom is pretty specific to Hay Budden---not unique but almost.
June 9, 201412 yr Pretty hard to get people who use tools to guess a price when the working parts are not shown much.
