Jim Coke
Greetings and welcome Jed, Look into a better ash gate set up.. Your waste and some hot coal will enter into your air supply.. There are lots of examples on this thread. Good luck with your project.. Forge on and make beautiful things Jim
Glenn
Cut the exhaust pipe and weld into a T for air into the side and ash out the bottom. You want the T part high up with a long(ish) down pipe to hold some small quantity of ash, maybe 12-18 inches.
Frosty
Welcome aboard Jed, glad to have you. Better tuyere a T with an ash dump, already suggested but worth repeating. Your rig is looking pretty good, minor tweaks maybe but don't worry about getting it perfect. Most of us who have been been doing this a while still haven't gotten a forge perfect so we just use what we have. You take a LOT of pictures, we LIKE that in a person. We LOVE pics. Frosty The Lucky.
ThomasPowers
Where is the cut out on the far side of the firepot? Long pieces often need to get heated in the middle! Also does that hammer handle show grain run out? Helps to select handles where the grain goes all the way from the head to the base of the handle. They may replace for free but gas and time swapping them out is probably NOT covered!
