2Tim215
Was given this a while back and went to collect today. Not quite sure what to do with it so if any of you have any ideas on setting it up and dies etc I would appreciate it. Tim
arftist
Too bad Young Dillon wasn't still posting. That is a less common press that can be used for operations the normal type with the platen is incapable of. Honestly I can't remember the advantage to it, so I can't suggest any tooling. Perhaps one of our British brothers will come along. Whatever the duty of that type was, I remember wanting one at the time, so be glad you got it. John B
Without more details, I would hazard a guess this is a clamp rather than a press, The thread seems left handed instead of the usual right hand, therefore It would be more suited to horizontal mounting than vertical as shown as you would get a clamping action then, something like a machine vise. It could be used as a press, but will need some modifications. They should not be a problem to make I would think, may be on the light side, but could be useful. Would be interesting to know its original use.
2Tim215
Thanks for the feed back. It was originally a horizontal press and I think I'm going to strip it and turn it into a small power hammer. Otherwise I have no use for it and it goes to the scrap yard. ThomasPowers
Not strongly built---look at the mounting lugs for attaching it to the back
2Tim215
I know, I am only going to use the guide for a small helve hammer.
ThomasPowers
Give a thought about using it for a collar bender
Gene Olson
I never could understand why anyone wanted to press flies; flowers and leaves maybe.... It looks like just a clamping jig of some sort. Does it have a double thread on the screw? I see the fast acme thread, a fly press would have a fine thread on the outiside surface of the screw. I can't tell from the picture.
