J W Bennett
Had a little time to play yesterday and thought I'd make a couple of canes( actually started out to make three and broke a horn off of one) and a hummingbird to add to the forged wallhanging in the living room. Just thought I'd share. John
jeep4x4greg
looks good! did you weld the bird in there? or is it supported/attached by some other way?
Frosty
Looking very nice. I'm sure you have a "real" forge but seeing the patio fireplace in the pics got me to wondering. I'll bet a little modification and it'd make a decent field expedient forge. Hmmmmmm. Frosty
J W Bennett
Jeep, The left wing is tack welded to the back edge of the leaf beside it. Frosty, The last time I looked I believe I had a forge ;)but then again that chimanea might do in a pinch.(where's spell check when ya need it) John
Pault17
john, very cool. my first project other than hooks was a humming bird ala Bill Epps. What does the whole wall hanging look like? is it in the gallery?
rusty_iron
John, very nice work. Did you split the horns first / form a long flat taper and split that or weld them on? I've not seen the humming bird before, are they difficult? Regards Rusty_iron Brisbane, Oz.
J W Bennett
Paul17, Heres some pictures of the whole thing. The roses aren't part of the this piece I made them awhile back to cheer my bride up.The camera doesn't show the colors and texture real well with the white back ground so I'm also attaching a few close ups from when I first made it. Rusty, The horns are made from 1/4" square stocktapered folded in half and then forge welded to the 1/2" square stock head. The hummingbird wasn't to bad. Slitting the wings is the hardest part for me. Both the hummingbird and the rams came from Bill Epps, I could work up blueprints if anyone is interested.
