Mark Emig
Here is an Aspery style leafinghammer I made. Started as 1" square 4140-weighs about 1-1/2 pounds. I'll make the next a bit smaller. I used the "toaster oven heat treat" that I learned from him-quenched at non magnetic, baked in the toaster oven for an hour and a half. Kind of "down and dirty" heat treat method, but it works well. I'm putting a black walnut handle on it, and leaving the temper colors on the hammer.
John B
Good looking hammer, but why the flat square end? I am used to seeing/making leafing hammers with both ends having radii on them so you can form different crimps/ribs on the leafs
Mark Emig
It's square, not flat-has a slight dome on it. It's for light work over ball stakes and such. Did it right out of M. Aspery's book.

Francis Trez Cole
nice looking hammer when I made mine I did a cross peen on one end and a straight peen on the other really comes in handy

Thanks for that, it looked flat in the pic, camera angle I guess, can understand that and its use now.
