I just would like to know the shape I would have to use the most to create these bevels and grinds. Jon Smith Posted January 5, 2013 Share Posted January 5, 2013 You're a bladesmith, forge it to whatever shape you need! Rich Hale Posted January 5, 2013 Share Posted January 5, 2013 In the knife forums balde making 101 we covered files with desriiptions and pictures and told how they are used and showed ways to getg ore work done on a blade. Start with 101 and then through the series to 109....Read those and do some shop time and you will jump far ahead of other new folks inhere that will not read but want us to answer in these little boxes...We did that work so anyone couild review and perhaps print shop copies.....Have fun! I have used Nicholson lathe files and also flat files. I first anneal then remove all teeth from file before proceeding to forging. This will reduce cold shuts and stress risers. thingmaker3 Posted January 6, 2013 Share Posted January 6, 2013 For "plunge cuts" a "goofy file" is a handy thing. It is a flat file with round edges.
