Krush
Yesterday I was looking at the Mcmaster Carr website and thought i would see if they carried anvils, to my surprise they did. all of the way up to 210lb Smith not Farrrier style for roughly 800$. I phoned the up and they could not tell me what brand anvil they were or wether they were cast or otherwise. I asked if they were north American made and was told they are made in the good ol USA. I dont know wether this is a fact or if they are made in China or India and have an American label on them. I would prefer to buy product from North America. Anyone know by chance what make they usually carry? Or has anyone ever purchased and anvil through them before? It is not a bad price for that heavy an anvil. Glenn
Jymm Hoffman makes an anvil in USA (Pa). There are other manufacturers of US anvils, some of which can be found on the IForgeIron forum. If you contact Jymm, tell him you heard about it on IForgeIron. (grin)
ThomasPowers
Most anvils I have seen in "supply" catalogs turn out to be ductile iron. Check before buying!
Krush
I figure so and would like to see for myself but if I knew what brand they were that would give me a good heads up! The Double horned Hoffman anvil looks real purty.
WillyP
On the McMaster-Carr web site they are listed as Cast Iron. Only the two little guys have a double horn. The 1 pounder says "Surface-hardened forged steel. And the 4- 1/2 pounder says "Cast steel." Have a look way at the bottom of this page. ----> McMaster-Carr Hope this saves a possible headache!
