bipolarandy
Im interested in knowing if Bamboo wood, would make a good knife handle. Does anybody use this wood for handles? I'd like to use it for the stick tang knifes i'v been making, and I dont know if it will hold up for long. Thanks -Andrei
Rich Hale
Yes it is too soft,,,however yo umay have on out if you want to do it right. Send it soemwhere that stabilizes woods....call them first and speak with them about bamboo. it will have to be really dry for them to do it...that will leave you with a workable hollow piece,,should fill that hollow solid methinks,,,epoxy would do it...good luck... Tyler Murch
You need to talk to a guy named Raymond Richard about bamboo. He can help you out. He's helped me some with some questions I had. Go to his website hawknknives.com
ThomasPowers
What type of bamboo? There are hundreds of varieties out there. Some would work great, some would be awful. You might try to get some samples of bamboo flooring to work with, it will be a type that is hard and durable and already treated for use. Woody
I saw a gun stock made out of lamanated bamboo, quite impressive. Some bamboo is very hard, remember it was used by the VC for punji stakes.

ThomasPowers
Just like wood can range from soft like balsa wood to hard like ebony; bamboo can range in hardness, thickness, ease of working etc. I have a friend in AR who was raising 7 differrent varieties of bamboo just to have a source for his projects. petersenj20
My local Publix grocery store has bamboo cutting boards that are real cheap for the mall ones. Would make a quick knife handle
