if you dont end up getting the lights to turn off, the easiest is to hide a night switch in your main powerline this prevents any draw to to battery this also prevents unwanted use of the machine...

I love old machines if i was closer i would love to help work on those at my work we just got a rock crusher patented in 1943 and made in 1974 they didn't change the design the entire time. The best part though is that the powerhouse is a early 50s d8 cat motor with a two cylinder pup motor will try to get photos sometime

5,000* refractory? Isn't the jar in the pic ITC-100?. Zirconium melts around 3,370f and kaolin less than that.
yes it is ITC-100 on the site I buy from ( Canadian Forge and Farrier Supplies) it is listed as 5000* refractory coating

finished up a bick for my anvil to work on rings and bottle openers out of a 1in tie rod, and got to learn my press better
afterwards I was going to do a leaf ring but the leaf broke off so i made a different design on the fly thinking i need to make the scrolls smaller as i think they would catch on things

It's too bad YouTube and other sites do not bother to vet how-to videos. I'm sure that would be expensive though.
the problems began when they quit showing the down votes so you could see if the video was decent or not

nice work every one,
did some work on a knife i started about a year ago 1095, oak handle, brass pins and guard. went to centerpunch my pin holes and lost 1/4 in off the tang so need to search for that but hope to be done by the end of the month if i can get some oil
working at a cement plant this summer not a clean job, but concrete employment no matter how you look at it

A slotted guard that only protrudes on the cutting side might work as well. Once soldered and/or pinned into place it would be plenty sturdy. The knife I show a few posts up has such a guard.
how do you attach it my last one was steel and i used wire feed the one i am working on now is brass would silver solder work??

hit an auction and came away with a nice haul, under 400$ Canadian. some for the shop some for elsewhere.
100lb Trenton(275$) , 2 screwdriver sets, old cb radio, inverter and some other stuff (2.50$) , a almost brand-new farriers kit (40$), box of wrenches (15$) and a set of jumper cables(2.50$). few other things i should have bid more on but this was good for my first auction.

true frosty meeting all the folks from here would leave no time for sightseeing or spending to much time in the shop

now that I'm older I want to go back to Thailand and experience that again (was 2 and 4 last times) or do a trip around Australia a trip to the Israel would be neat but all require one thing I don't have, a steady bank account

went to a historic park for school and just about cried at all the wrought iron they had sitting around, there had a wagon there that had all the hardware but was rusting away and the wood was rotten. or the number of WI wagon wheels just sitting around it made me sad same with the fact that they blunted all the knives and axes and deactivated priceless firearms in almost as new conditions
worst thing though, there was no smithy set up there

thomas can you please re-share the rasple snake pics or a link to them

Thanks I just looked up that thread, I had forgotten about that post,
I sent him a howdy PM just to check on him,
I just looked at that he may be busy with lawyers and what not
thats a smart idea as most people have email notifications for PMs

check it I have heard of that some of those models are not actually what the numbers say

try using some notebook paper inside light the paper then turn on the burner if i take to long to long to light my T-burner i get a large amount of propane vapor in the air and this can cause a loud sound as it ignites.
I have no experience with forced air or ribbon burners but it might light easier if you reduce air flow ??
others who know more will probably come by and provide a better opinion but that gives you a start point

If I had to pick my least favorite thing it'd be the foot of the anvil. It should be solid, not standing on feet like that.
not sure how i missed that yes i agree that needs fixed
What did you do in the shop today?
