Alexandr, my dad was in the service and we were stationed in Germany when I was young, I can remember walking to school through a path/trench of snow over my head that the soldiers would walk down every morning from our quarters to school. Beautiful country that I miss, other than the snow.
Where in germany was this and when I've got contacts in the swiss, german, french corner and their lucky to get an inch throughout the winter few years back they got like 2.5 inches for 2 or 3 days area shut down til it melted away and where so exited to se that much at once also was first snow in 3-4 years. though ive heard about more snow in years past
lol meanwhile i sit here with 2-2.5ft outside and more coming for the next few days

frosty there's lots of sheep here I know of 4 maybe 5 farms that have large flocks and many others that run just a few sheep for themselves the largest one i know runs somewhere around 300 head I want to say not sure I think that's average with lambs but most don't save wool the one raises hair sheep for meat the large one raises for meat and doesn't save wool and the one who has the wool shop I think she does mainly meat and outsources for wool at her shop the problem is lots of them are pastured and the wool gets dirty to the point its not worth trying to clean

this was shared earlier this month by the local manshed
QuoteEveryone PLEASE be careful because people are going crazy from being locked down at home!
I was just talking about this with the microwave and the toaster while drinking my Pepsi, and we all agreed that things are getting bad.
I didn't mention any of this to the washing machine, because she puts a different spin on EVERYTHING!! Certainly couldn't share with the fridge, cause he's been acting cold and distant! In the end, the iron straightened me out! She said the situation isn't all that pressing and all the wrinkles will soon get ironed out!
The vacuum, however, was very unsympathetic ... told me to just suck it up! But the fan was VERY optimistic and gave me hope that it will all blow over soon!
The toilet looked a bit flushed but didn't say anything when I asked its opinion, but the front door said I was becoming unhinged and the doorknob told me to get a grip!! You can just about guess what the curtains told me: they told me to "pull myself together!"
We will survive!!
Pass it on - gotta keep the humour! • • ,-
got some items coming up the pipe will be sharing soon hopfully

Locally here we have 3 types of venomous snakes 2 venomous spiders, 1 scorpion, a bunch of wasps, bees and hornet species, and quite a few poisonous plants
no wolves though, I think they got wiped out over a hundred years ago,
theres black bears but they are pretty rare to see one, I only ever hear about a bear sighting maybe once a year,
we have coyotes, cougars, wolves, lynx, bobcat, black bears Grizzly bears, and i think some black widows only snake here is the garter snake there is some rattlers 400-450ish km from us do don't expect to see them here

My nephew, Zach Phillips, is currently tied for 2nd in Bareback going into the second round. He scored 88 points. He missed a spur, but other than that it was a very clean ride. The horse performed great. Really gave him a challenge.
Zach is currently 15th in the world and was for a time I think 2nd in the nation. Really a quality man. His rookie season he finished with a spiral fracture of one of his leg bones. I didn’t think he would come back from that, but he has. He and his wife live outside of Gillette, Wyoming.
good for him wish him luck

MJL, may have been one of the new Boron alloys that don't break like HC steel; but they also can't be quench hardened for blades.
Thomas that may well be as they slowly chip away when hit with rocks and spin at high rpm
i found this one one site that makes a similar tooth
QuoteWe offer hot saw disc teeth for forestry feller bunchers, forestry brush mulchers, and forestry mowers. Designed to fit existing saw disc heads and made from a high quality special grade of steel to support longer wear life. Our teeth are designed to handle an array of applications, reduce operating costs, and maximize up-time.
and contacted a rep for the company that makes these and received this reply on material
Quote_They are all steel. Depending on the tooth, some have a carbide overlay.
i am wondering what type of steel is it a borron alloy or a standard carbon steel
-We have a heat treated tooth and a carbide version.
I know these have no carbide on them so I may mess around some more
also the snow destroyed the chimney i am thinking of taking a 10-12in taking the inner pipe out and lining it with cast-o-lite and see if it works better than my current forge
also is it normal for cast-o-lite to fracture in colder climates? -35c and then when-20 fired up to forging temp then cooled to -30 that night and other times at -10 to-15C

first isnt blacksmithing but started to fix up an old snowmachine a 1973 ski-doo tnt 440cc engine needs coil, belts, and fuel line (sitting since late 80s or the early 90s) also a snow blower engine in the background
Also no picture but tried working some buncker teeth got one pounded to 1/16 and quenched in water to no result it was bending under a hammer after being pulled out of near freezin water and cold to touch. Wondering if its some kind of mild though sparks suggest maybe medium carbon (40-50% maybe) thinking they may make good axe bodies if nothing else. will post pics of them within next few days

SHC, it is almost always a LOT cheaper to have your own propane tanks refilled than exchanging them.
However, I just discovered that you have to have your own propane tanks recertified for pressure every 12 years. I just took one of my 30# tanks to be refilled and was refused because it was out of certification.
"By hammer and hand all arts do stand."
I have a 20, 30, and 100# I am looking to get another 100 here they need recertification every 10 years the 20s are cheaper new than recertifying the local co-op charges by the lb filled while Costco charges by liter and has a cheaper price i usually take the small ones to Costco but the 100# doesn't fit on the carrier so it has to go to the co-op as my father can take it in his service truck
A 20# usually costs me 12 CAD

We raise 100 birds with friends and there are at 8 weeks already ones who can barely move at 10 to 12 lbs. The knees literaly give out.
Das we also have layer hens and got some heratige banty mixes our one hen raised that lay about half size eggs the heratige eggs are already small about 3/4 size

I am a pro at starting and never finishing projects.DHarris I feel you I am now over a year on my sister's Christmas gift i am waiting for my oil to become liquid again as -20s and 30s C is a solid block

your work looks better than mine
I had to catch up on 8 pages in this tread all your work was amazing and I am afraid to show mine now but oh well here goes
I cant find it and didn't take pics of it yet but made a para wrapped skinner for my sister about three and a half inch blade and blue pink handle still needs quenched and tempered 5160 steel I did the grinds at -24 to 128 C since I needed something to show for the last year and every few minutes I would warm up at the forge
I also stole DHerris' idea and made a brass copper tree ran some color to it and gave it a coat of beeswax for my mother
also a copper leaf ring I don't have pictures on that i gave to an elderly family friend.
finally a reminder to keep your materials hot I was working on a new knife on Wednesday and at -26 with -36 earlier that day in a shop with three walls stuck the piece at a red, tongs slipped, piece flipped up, broke the skin and cauterized at same time. At first I thought my hair was on fire as I smelt burnt hair reached up and hand came off with blood so immediately shut off forge and went inside to have a look, nothing bad but a good wakeup nonetheless.
also possibly have an anvil I can borrow from a friend after snow melts thanks to TPAAAT
talk to y'all next year
M.J.Lampert
PS forgot to add I'm learning to sharpen drill bits by hand from my father and am finally getting close

What did you do in the shop today?

a trick i use is get it cold and then heat it back up as much as you can handle and then cool again do 2-3 times and blistering is almost zero when done right away
would show mine but that would be embarrassing to me
