finishing up a blade I made and running into some trouble with keeping the blade straight
steel: 1095
spine thickness: .07-.08 in
oil: parks 50
Quench temp: non-mag +4-8 seconds
oil temp: 6*C
doing best to move blade in up-down motion only
on second try immediately after oil stops boiling placed between anvil and a large flat piece of steel, still bent. 3rd try same plus pushing on plate with my weight, not as bad but still some.
Now figuring I need reanneal and normalize again before trying any more
on the plus side the blade did come out hard (take half a win over a full loss)
results: #3
TIA for any help

Tell him I can attest from personal experience you don't really need your whole brain when you start off with so much more than average.
ive been told teenagers dont need brains...
from a family friend
Quotebetween 10 and 12 one takes out their brain puts it in a jar and sets it on a shelf to be forgot about until their done doing stupid $**! in their twenties, when they remember where they put it and become decent citizens.

I know Thomas will be missed on here for is excellent ideas and quick remarks hope he can get back on one last time to say goodbye
on the plus side because of this forum people can learn from him for years if not decades to come.
sending thoughts and prayers to the family to get through this

No pictures but all week, I have been live trapping pack rats and re-locating them. So far I've caught 4 rats and 1 chipmunk.
I understand not wanting packrats, having entered cabins that they took over but personally I would exterminate them rather than relocate as that smell/mess is not one I would wish on anybody

good to hear that Thomas is perking up (though I would have loved that estate sale) Looking forward to him coming back to the group soon

got some more info of the radio's info tag, it's a Canadian made built by roger majestic corp. limited for De Forest Crosley limited.
Price in first year of sale 122.95 $ accounting for inflation that would be 2537.09 CAD today.
this is some pictures from the net of ones in better shape I don't have the cloth or top as of now
edit: found some more info on the company it appears that rogers-majestic bought De Forest Crosby after the parent company tried to expand too fast in the middle of the depression and went bankrupt in '33
here's a link explaining better than I can for those interested (I looked it through and think its ok for the site (if not please remove it mods))

need to get some pictures but was given an old tube radio cabinet to refurbish it. It has working inners and once I have the cabinet fixed the owner is letting me decide what happens to it. not sure what make or model but there is a stamping on the inside "10/36" and another "Neptune" so my guess is a 1937 model?

Thanks Glenn I was going to post something like this in the next day or so.

the leafsprings I've had the bolt and collar only align and held the leafs together not under any pressure like a Coil spring which can turn into a projectile
Jobtiel what kind of clamp you use? an F or C clamp?
-
Thomas sounds good I have a wonderful design i want to make a bunch of anyways
Jobtiel I like that idea we can do different ideas based on the season or random choice

be excellent in a shop just walk to the toolbox pull out a rusty wrench and bite a piece out of it. Of course, this is all to be done in front of the new guy before asking for his ID10-T form and a pipe stretcher.

should be careful what I wish for, but I would like more snow here, only 2-3 inches and need at least double for the local ski hill to open
