  1. I think I will try the rebar route first and see how it looks, I get stuck on "it's gotta look like that" sometimes. Maybe I can embellish it with hammer + chisel, or some weld beads, who knows. I have some smaller size to experiment with and if it looks good, I can look for bigger size. I never actually had to look for rebar before; it always just gravitated to me...... But I bet bigger sizes are hard to find. It's nice having other ideas mentioned here to fall back on or try in the future, though. I really like the idea of an adjustable taper spring fuller, sounds like a tool I need anyway and fun to make....
  2. I can't find this. I have one book on him.
  3. Thanks for all the input. Now I'll have to see what works. I think I'll try each idea, I have a lot of time. I have stock to work with and my scrap pile looks a little lean to me. I'll stop adding to it when I find what looks right. The tentacles will be the fun part anyway... I can't help but like the twisted shells in the video, though. Thanks Arkie.
  4. That's a good one, I agree.... I'm wondering if posting links instead of inserting them would be better. This thread has slowed down to a crawl on my cell phone. Sorry for using up so much bandwidth.... I should have said in the title "video heavy".
  5. I'd like to make a forged sculpture of an ammonite, a "living" one, not a fossil. Not very big, 1" bar stock. I think I have all the details worked out, but am having trouble figuring out how to do the ridges on the shell, as they get progressively smaller. I'd post a picture but it's copywrited, I'm sure, so I'll put in a link to exactly what I want it to look like. I thought of hammering and chisels, edge of the anvil, etc.... but I want both sides identical. Any ideas would be appreciated.... Maybe I miss the obvious. https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/RNaW48QkpnKqTo9WtrQ3WV.jpg
  6. Very nice! Thank you for taking the time to list them. All around awesome.
  7. I love that small vise. I wonder what the books contain.
  8. I agree, but maybe a better sub-forum title would be "Historic Metal". It would be more inclusive. For instance, I found this interesting (I am restoring a beam scale...) but it's a copper alloy. Dream on Frosty... you never know. https://www.heritagedaily.com/2023/07/rare-roman-steelyard-beam-found-at-milecastle-46-on-hadrians-wall/148146
  9. I laugh because this happened on every Med Cruise I went on and it never occured. Funny seeing people throw stuff over the side. It was pretty prevalent. Our last port was usually Morocco though. The compartments always smelled strangely.
  10. I love that Billy... Especially where he shouts "Somebody help me!" . I spent some time in the Carribean in the Navy... I'd like to dig my toes in that beach sand again.
  11. That is a great group photo. I watched the video quite a few times. It reminds me of how I felt all the times I discovered something new. I can't imagine the satisfaction and feeling, of teaching, seeing that look and excitement.
  12. I don't know what language they dubbed Walter Brennan with in this one!
  13. I was going to edit: "if you can't walk away". But the edit is still broken evidently.
  14. If you find yourself stuck in drudgery, the only way out is to find a challenge in it, and then use that to your advantage.
  15. Makes you want to jump up and grab a partner. I'd probably need help off the dance floor..... into an ambulance.
  16. "If you are working hard on something you don't care about it is called stress. If you are working hard on something you love it is called passion." One makes time drag, the other makes it fly.
  17. Crossroads was a good movie. I should watch it again. I like Ennio Morricone, but there is too much to list here. I mostly like his work for Sergio Leone. I love westerns though, and a lot of the actors. But that's a whole different kettle of fish...
  18. Purple Bullet. Sometimes we lose track of what's important. I would say that's motivational. I had a video in mind about a time in my life when I lost my way completely. I hesitate to post it, but maybe I will. There's only one thing that saved me, someone took me to church once, now I take the same person, many years later as she can't drive...... You may want to turn the volume down. Sometimes my art takes me places I need not go. That's changing though.
  19. The Ogallala Aquifer is probably contaminated by Round Up by now. Or other things.
  20. I've already found some new favorites. No rules here. If you have a favorite, post it. You'd be suprised what people like. The guy singing Shotgun Boogie reminds/looks like a good buddy from back home. How about a combination of blues and country?
  21. I love it. I might have to post some Larry Hooper. Edit is broken function.
  22. I think I will start my own thread of motivational music and videos I like so I don't trip up or ruin anybody elses ever again. My feelings won't get hurt if any body adds, criticises or derails. I like Johnny Horton. Whiskey River might follow. Boston. Who knows. Heres another Johny Hotron. Pure coincidence.
  23. Thank you. I believe it will help in resolving differences of opinion. Not that I'm not inflexible nor open minded....... I'll just point at the photo and say Anvil said so.....
