  1. No, not animatronic. It's on the tip of my tongue but is stuck there. Google don't help if you can't ask it the right question...
  2. A great idea that I didn't even consider, use as is with some polishing. I make some odd shaped stuff. Or a little grining and have a bird bick... . Thanks Geeze, where do I start replying to your comments....? The only kinetic sculptures I have made are some cheesey mechanical moving things, not called kinetic but I cannot remember the name for them. And some weather vanes. But I'm a fan of moving art. How about a marionette bird sculpture? Marionettes can be quite intricate, but it would have to be small to keep the weight down. Plenty of beak and jaw clacking possibilities there. I have 14 of them btw but there's more to be had. I would take you up on that, Larry! Maybe we could collaberate on a project, if not for the distance..... I stripped a seed planter on the old place before we moved, all that was left was the frame. Lot of rusty wheels, cogs and whatnot. I wanted to take an old pull roadgrader on a trailer but some people stepped in on that. Thanks. That made my day. You should start a "Fun Fact of the Day" thread.... I would look forward to that. Thanks all.
  3. I agree with all of the above. I lost my job once and had to buy COBRA insurance and it fairly well chewed through my savings in short order. But it was better than not being covered if something did happen. I look at it this way, which isn't much help, but either you don't try something and never know, or look at it as "a bird in the hand" situation. It depends on the individual. I've gone for the brass ring a few times and won and lost. Whatever you do, I wish you the best, of course.
  4. Those are some great items Will, thanks for sharing them. Try not to take over that whole cabinet. Those could very well be disc marks. Very nice.... There Is a place I want to visit within range called Endor Furnace, it's the remains of a furnace that operated during the Civil War and then made railcar wheels before going bust. I think there are preservation plans for it. So much I'd like to see & do. Here's someone's souvenere/curiosity I picked up at the flea market for .50 cents just because I like RR stuff. It's cast and about 4" long. It's suprisingly heavey, they don't make stuff anymore like this. I like it also because "The General" is one of my favorite old movies with Buster Keaton. Also a few arrow heads and what I like to believe are hide scrapers.
  5. You have a good dr. I've had ones that believe a pill is the only answer. I'm very touchy when it comes to medicines. Pills have their place but not for everything. My mom once had a doctor tell her work, exercise and fresh air do wonders for what ails you. She's still going strong at 81. Everything in moderation and regular check ups.
  6. I was thinking of drilling a small hole in one to see what the chips looked like. There is a casting or forging line on them. Or a spark test. I just got them. May be there are better uses for it. Still, a White Raven sculpture would be fun, and I hear they are rare....
  7. Fangs work. Or T-Rex toenail... Or I could get really imaginative...
  8. You can always poke some back and make me feel better...
  9. Now I'm sorry for poking fun at you.
  10. I see the speed boat now and a shark too. Also a whale if you look at it backwards. I'll let it sit there and see what else comes up.
  11. Trust me, don't bother lookin it up. It's pathetic even with Charles Bronson in it. I was just poking fun at you. Vincent was pretty good in "House on Haunted Hill" though. Corny, but good.
  12. Personally, I would bave stubbed my to on the bedpost, and fell down and cracked my head on the floor on the way to the plate glass door.
  13. I suppose "Master of the World" movie left you flat. I love Verne but Vincent Price must have been desparate.
  14. I found a big box of bird beaks/claws for cheap. I keep one on the coffee table so I can look at it once in a while and wonder other uses I can find for them.
  15. Happy news. I believe a persons outlook impacts outcomes and happy people recover faster. Easy to say, I know. But it's true.
  16. You have to be able to laugh at yourself some time. https://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/76481-how-about-this/
  17. I guess "conjure" was not the best word to use. I just looked it up. Substitute "form".... .
  18. I don't do audio books. Can you conjure up mental images while listening to them? Just curious. I do while reading fiction. With mythology, though, I like to see others visual interpretations. I don't know why that is. Wikipedia and art websites help with that a lot. Ray was pretty good.
  19. Billy, I only have a passing knowledge of screw machines so I looked them up. Very interesting. The closest I have as a hobbiest is a tailstock turret for my benchtop lathe.... Thanks for showing your rivet. Close tolerances indeed and I would say that is more than a wee bit smaller than my camshaft... It's good you are encouraging your granddaughter's interest in rocks. I collect rocks and minerals too and that led to fossils. One thing leads to another, I guess I have too many hobbies and interests, maybe I need an intervention. Oaks Quarry sounds like a fun place to explore, I remember you mentioning it when I was talking on here about moving cross country, I think, because our route took us right past you. But, we were on a mission to get moved and so never stopped for a look-see. I want to go to the coast and find a shark tooth. We went once but had no luck. There's a lot to be said for local interests and I have been spending a lot of time learning about this area, but that may be because I am knewish here. There's logging history, some mining and on and on. More hobby's and interests..... ...... And probably some new curiosities and artifacts to show. Dad hauled home a quartzite boulder the shape of texas once. There was enough stone on the southern tip of it to bury in the ground to hold it upright in the yard.
  20. I like your ship candle holder. How many people have one of those lighting a fine dinner?
  21. It's too late to edit. I'm a big fan of Ray Harryhausen. What a life and doing what you love. That is where I got interested in Greek culture.
  22. Old locks and skeleton keys are something I collect and you can pick them up at flea markets for next to nothing. More so if they have no keys. I know somebody for that tho. Also a photo of an ammonite I bought in Morocco in a little shop in a bazarr. I wish I could go back in time and really look at what they had to sell. I want to make a tri spike mount for my ammonites as shown in the sculpture sub forum. Someday.
  23. Toss it in a bon/brushpile fire. Just no magnesium, eh?
  24. I get bogged down in minutiae a lot. Now I'm looking to Greek mythology for ideas and a different path to follow. The Gods, Titans and so forth. I like to be careful though, as I don't think idol worship is a good thing. I look at creating sculpture objects as just making "things". Fun to make and look at. Unless it is something I truly believe in. If you want a rabbit hole, look to Greek and Roman mythology. What a confusing mess. I'm finally getting my shop, capabilities and interest re-established and it is time to make something. Not creating is hard on me, and it's been a long dry spell. Thank you to all have put up with me.
