  1. We had a black walnut tree once. We used to gather them up and throw them on the gravel lane to get the nasty outer shell off, the grinding action of the tires and gravel worked well. Then you had to break open the nearly impenatrable shell with a hammer. Wear safety goggles if you ever attempt this. Then just try to pick out the meats! It's worthwhile though. Mmmmm.... In warm bannana bread, with lots of butter? I must try them on vanilla ice cream with Vermont maple syrup. All the other ideas as well! So little time....
  2. I just saw your saw blade sign/post. Nice work, Das. Love the chainsaw bar! Now you must tell us the story behind it... Prying minds want to know. Do not leave out any incriminating details!
  3. Jerry... I like vanilla ice cream with a bit of strong black coffee drizzled over it. I like cherry, nut, fudge ice cream. I could probably learn to like anchovy ice cream, but Spatchcocked durian with fermented Balut in a habenero curry tzatiki ice cream? You win.
  4. NC. Sandhills area. Don't ever try it. It's all packed in a garage in town. I thought I had a stout back. I bet the back bumper on the moving trucks drag.
  5. Save the metal magic for later, when things cool down. It is good to hear from you. And get a thumb's up on plucky.... It HAS been a strange, rough year for most, on this end as well. It can't last forever. Hang in there with the family and your health above all things. You can try to hyjack my thread all you want, it's already gone off the rails... It's a curse or something. You never know what side of the ditch it will careen into. But it's all fun... Yes, I have done a few things lately, but my shop is all packed up and I am getting ready to move across country. It's odd not being able to walk into the shop and create. I guess we all get lost sometimes, Das. Scott.
  6. Hi Das, and thanks! I was just about to ask the moderaters to lock this thread, after Frosties last post. I'm glad I didn't. How are you and what kind of metal magic have you been up to?
  7. I feel a little green around the gills.
  8. Place it carefully in a chicken wire lined gunny sack with rocks and toss into the deepest part of the river. Current is best for agitation. Anchor carefully. Check periodically.
  9. So would I if I had no sandblaster. I guess that is why I asked. Or tumble it in a can, as mentioned. It never occurred to me to mention an alternative. I'm getting daft.
  10. Different strokes... I figured after 20 hrs I would ask him about it.
  11. Just wondering. It's that ball peen hammer head you found. It's begging for a deep scouring under the nozzle. There are other ways, but what fun blowing all that crud off there! I like crusty layers of rust more than others, but not on tools. Nice finds, at any rate!
  12. I ran across a website that had all kinds of ppe for kids not long ago and I can no longer find it. They had all kinds of gloves and safety glasses and leather aprons, etc.. I started the search with lab safety gear for kids for one of my grandchildren. I will search further, it's out there. You may not need it with all of the tips on here tho. May not ship either. I will look anyway...
  13. Tread lightly, my friend.
  14. Is that picture old? It look's well preserved.
  15. Jump on in, the waters fine! Have you a culinary delight you would like to contribute? Anything goes. I'm taking notes.
  16. Put one foot in front of the other And soon you'll be walking 'cross the floor...

Is there a full moon out tonight?
  18. Store it. Chop a section off when you need it. Ideas present themselves in due time. You might want to make a Guillotine tool in the future and need a solid frame. Perfect! Or you may develop a passion for making dragon headed walking canes. Who knows. I would stick with the sawzall though, angle grinders and cut off discs can be unforgiving.
  19. Sprinkle a light dusting of that smoked Ghost Pepper powder on the crust before you fire it. It will warm your gizzard... What is your all time favorite toppings? Vulans Grill here we come.
  20. Here is my main shop/house/dog park boss. She's a Carolina Swamp Dog. All our hounds are rescues and she is no exception. Don't look into those eyes for too long....
  21. I hereby take back calling Alien a troll. Strictly for legal reasons....
  22. Even I know enough about blacksmithing to recognize a Troll.... Lol... Alien...
  23. Fruit woods. Peach, pear, apple, what have you.. Poke a lot of holes in the tin foil so the smoke can do it's job. Old pizza pans work even better. Smoke/cook until they get really broken down and slimey. Wood fired pizza and it's crust cannot be beaten!
