  1. I know some manufacturers jumped on the bandwagon making these things. They were probably the pre-cursor to todays "multi tool". I might have to find and re-size and post some of the loony patents people came up with. Every concievable combination. I ran across one that had a knife, corkscrew, screwdriver and saw attached to one of those spiked "kaiser" helmets... It would be great to see real examples, if they ever actually got made. Who knows which way the wind may blow around here! It's a trick to get you to buy two of them. Don't fall for it.
  2. I searched on google and looked about on IFI. I generaly have trip over something before I find it. Is there a thread for old weird combination tools such as this? Do you have one? It would be fun to see actual examples. I used to do patent searches and there were tons of "ideas". I suppose not many came into reality or have been melted down by now. Thanks.
  3. I was in Belgium visiting my sister who was in the military, and never heard of this. I'll have to ask her why! I'll try it out...
  4. I feel bad about my fries and mayo post! I was never introduced to this delicacey. Really. Never meant to offend...
  5. Let's see... Indian, Japanese, Caribbean sauce. Anybody else have any input before I re-do the whole recipe?
  6. I guess I'm confused a bit by the fries and mayo thing. Is that a live for the moment statement? What one does to ones self is one thing.....
  7. I for one don't take it lightly. I have an 80 year old mother living in my household. I've taken rather drastic measures to mitigate any chance of infection on this end. I was taking a pot shot at Big Pharma amongst other things. Belgium is beautiful. My sister used to live there and we had an opportunity to visit.
  8. Heres a happy little fellow. Kind of offsets the bad karma Frawnken Chicken generated. Coming soon to Vulcans Grill: Spatchcock Chicken With Trinidad Habenero Sauce.
  9. Heres one I re-equiped with a bandsaw blade, Thomas. I think the frame is an old meatsaw or something. The teeth are a bit worn out in the middle, time for the billet pile? I counted 10 tpi but my eyes arent what they used to be. Maybe I need to carry some readers around.
  10. Lovely! Will it come in a cheap nasal spray???? I want a pill, as long as its small. Can I buy it at walydrug yet.... Gimme, gimme, gimme.
  11. Thats nice! I use a similar method for making turtle shells for my metal sculptures. I get a leg up on the wood form forming part of it by using a chainsaw attachment on my 4-1/2" angle grinder. Not for everybody, but less smoke! Scott.
  12. This is a good reason to have redundant tools for the same purpose in the shop. Georges idea is probably best for what you may have on hand. I wore my arm out and decided to build a power hacksaw. You may not be able to do that or buy a new bandsaw, torch or what have you, but extra shop supplies are also a good idea. I bent a sawzall blade the other day and beat it halfway straight with a hammer to where it would somewhat fuction and got the job done. Guess I ran out of "back up" supplies too... Scott
  13. Power on my southpaw friends (no offense you righties!). I wrote this with my left handed cell phone
  14. This atmosphere is getting too caustic for me!
  15. I've worked with lye before but never soaked anything in it. Yes, Thomas, no chloramine gas for me please. I always thought it was chlorine gas but google says chloramine.
  16. I dont mean to pry, but what role does the temperature play? It is not well known but I am a big fan of corrosion/rust. The faster it happens the better. Except on my truck and mower deck. I wonder how sodium hydroxide would work.
  17. Frosty, it's an old video but I would say 5 minutes. I used old broken industrial bandsaw blades on it and they have aggressive teeth. I had to use a plasma cutter on the blade mounting holes after destroying several drill bits. Thanks mutant. The motor currently on it is 1/4 hp but I think it had a old unknown washing machine motor on it to start with. Im really glad the link thing worked. I thought a you toob picture would show up with it though. Kind of fun.
  18. Heres a power hacksaw I cobbled together years ago because I tired of using my arm and couldnt afford an Enco. There is no lift mech on the backstroke and isn't osha ok. I've never put anything on you tube, this is an experiment so delete/move if it chews up too much bandwidth or whatever. https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=UQ7YmcBbmaU
  19. Rats! I might have to change my avatar photo. Ole whiskers is getting boring. Haha, I thought you were calling it Igor the Eyesore before I read on. I bet that lift comes in handy. I have nothing that high to reach. Now if it came with all terrain tires.....
  20. If its inoperable at the moment, perhaps a couple of heavey duty come alongs or chainfalls would work. Just be careful! Looks like a job to take apart.
  21. Almost our entire food supply depends on these chemicals and other "stuff". I drove past the city sewage plant today and the stench was unbelievable. They are selling the solid by-product as soil amendment to local gardeners and farmers. Horrific indeed Frosty. It blew their port and city to pieces.
  22. I am not surprised. We used Hexane. There was a 6' vapor wall around the place to contain the fumes if there was a line break as it is heavier than air. I think some old ethanol plants still use conical screw presses to get the oil out. They are probably antiquated and doomed for bankruptcy.
  23. They want rid of it in most cases! The problem lies in unloading it when YOU need to. I've been downsizing big time. I wish I'd have met someone like me when I was starting out. I quit picking that wreck some time ago but had fun there. I should have stated that I suppose....
