  1. something very strange is going on with this anvil !! I talked to the seller and was ready to buy it.. he was very nice about everything and said its a good deal and priced it to sell !! .. I then asked about its rebound and got a lot of beating around the bush !! from.. its probably alright ... I'm selling it just the way I bought it... I won't confirm either way if its good or not !! ..then told me he wouldn't even confirm that it was indeed 685lbs ... that is just what the guy he bought it from told him.. and he has no way of weighing it... and if you send me the money the anvil is yours !! I asked about the anvil on top and he was quick to tell me it is a 40lb. Hay Budden !! I asked if he was a anvil collector?? and he said yes.. he has been collecting anvils for years and has many.. but... he has no way to check the rebound on this one ??? I asked if he could bounce a ball peen hammer on it and some of his other anvils and see if they are the same ?? then he sent me a email saying he didn't think I would be happy with the anvil and wasn't going to sell it now.. ???? I believe there is something wrong and he knows it... but in his words "I won't confirm either way"..
  2. here's one on eBay right now ( link removed ) at 686 lbs. with a buy it now of $6100.00 or make offer.. so at 2K the other one is a deal and looks to be in better condition !!
  3. no its real and the owner wants to move it on to a new home.. I think he just has the smaller sized one sitting on top to show the size..
  4. I ran across this North German Double Horn Anvil. seems to be a pretty good price at less then $3.00 a LB. and weighs in at 685 lbs. !!
  5. sorry Black Frog, those are the only photos the seller has in his ad..
  6. here's a unusual looking Hay Budden Farriers Anvil I ran across. I've never seen one shaped quite like this one .. JT
  7. found this steel things and figured they could work for a vise stand. need to add a piece of steel for the post to rest on.. paid $65.00 for both, they weigh 368 lbs. each !!

    new post vise stands

I just got them home today so I will look more into different mounting ways.. and yes I do know I need to have a support for the end of the post.. storage is also a good idea !! thank you for the ideas Lou !! Hello Marc, the height seems ok just standing in front of it.. at least for the Fisher.. the bottom plates do have holes already in them that could be used to mount them tight to the floor.. I have no idea what they were original intent was for.. the Fishers jaws remain parallel with each other at all times.. in this photo you can see better that it has another casting that works to keep the jaws in line with each other..

    new post vise stands

the trouble with mounting the Fisher on the other side is the lower screw and piece above it has no place to go through it with out cutting a hole for them.. the other vise could mount there but without the stands being bolted down they are a lot easier to tip over that way.. most of the weight is on that side already .. with them mounted on this side the lower plate is not at all in the way while standing in front of the vise and feels very solid and not easily moved..

    new post vise stands

Hello everyone !! I had my eye on these steel things at a small local on-line auction for the last couple weeks due to not getting listed when they were supposed to.. I thought it was a single item and thought I might be able to make it work for my 120 lb. Fisher double screw vise.. after looking at them closer it was a pair and just banded together.. better yet I thought.. now having one for another vise if they work... I ended up paying a bit more for them then I thought I was going to get them for .. and ended up paying $65.00 for them... I weighed them once I managed to get them off my truck.. 368 lbs. each !! they are 3' tall. the top plate is 12" X 12 1/4" X 1 1/4" thick the back plate is 3" tall 1 1/4" X 12 1/4" and the bottom plate is 18" X 12 1/4" X 1 1/2" .. I'll have to add a piece of steel to each for the post to rest on.. I think they turned out much better then I expected and seem very solid !! JT
  11. I will probably go look at them in person either tomorrow or Saturday.. any ideas on the one on the stump ??
  12. these are the only photos he has right now, he is also selling the Anvil in the background on the stump, he says the only markings he see's on that one is two 0's on the back.. that one is 175 lbs. the one on the steel stand is 185 lbs.
  13. can anyone identify what make this anvil might be by its shape ?? owner says he can only see numbers on the front and back and they look like a 26 & 56 . thanks, JT
  14. any thoughts on this Fisher Anvil ?? is it delaminating ?? or just casting marks ?? thanks, JT
  15. price update on the OP anvil !! now states its 80lbs. and price reduction to only $210.00 now !! JT
  16. I think we all agree .. just having some fun showing what people are advertising they have for sale !!
  17. this one just sold here at a small local on-line auction yesterday for $81.62 after tax's and fees .. probably should have bid on it but passed...
  18. take a look at this choice anvil for sale on Craigslist for just $240.00 !!
  19. it really does rebound like that, I was very surprised, I didn't even have to drop my hand to catch it. I dropped it several times and came right back to my finger tips from about 18"
  20. here are a few more photos of it cleaned up better the one is a bit blurry but its the weight of " 390 " couldn't even tell it was there before but that's what my crane scale weighed it as also.. the face has some pitting but the rebound is great !! snaps right back in your hand at 18" with a 1" ball bearing !!
  21. I know its a blacksmith vise but you see more screw vise's then these.. why are they like this? do they hold securely?? is it a good vise to have ?? thanks, JT
  22. thank you !! I cleaned it up quite a bit today at work will do more tomorrow and post photos... it ended up a pretty good deal at about $1.68 a Lb. !!
  23. Okay guys here it is !!... well the measurements weren't all that wrong !! the base is 13" X 17" the top is 12 1/2" X 7 " and 12 3/4 " tall .. I weighed it on my digital crane scale and it weighed in at 390 Lbs. looks to say Fisher on it and a 1892 date.. I'll clean it up on Saturday and post more photos.. JT
