  1. I got my 240 lb. Soderfores Paragon today.. it took a few days longer to arrive then expected.. it didn't get picked up when it was supposed to .. it was a good thing the seller did use those heavy duty zipties !! they held the anvil in place very well as the tie downs worked themselves loose and really did little to nothing to hold anything in place.. actually a $20.00 waste of money.. part of the pallet even broke and those zipties held it all together !! it was to dark to get more photos when I got home from work but will add some when I get a chance .. JT
  2. update again, he added some tie down straps ... hopefully it should hold it better...JT
  3. Hi I don't know the age of it.. and I have contacted him again asking him to add some tie down straps to hold it better to the pallet
  4. that's what I was thinking as well !! it doesn't have far to go... I tried to tell him to tie strap it down not ziptie it down..
  5. yes that true.. maybe the glove is a fair indication to the size ..
  6. here's a update on my 240 lb. Soderfors Paragon readied for shipment on a 38"x38" pallet !! should have it on Halloween !! JT
  7. that's interesting.. but it doesn't look very over powering next to those pales to be 288Lbs. though.. kinda more like 131 Lbs. ????
  8. Thank you Jim Coke !! I'll have to think on that one for awhile !! lol I see your in Cadillac, I'm down in Saginaw... JT Thank you Tubalcain2 !! and for the warning about the REBOUND !! maybe I should try my first time outdoors so I don't put a hole in my roof !! lol JT
  9. I was looking at that awhile back and almost bought it.. its nice and from what I have been told its well worth it.... he won't budge from his $1100.00 at least back then, and its been for sale for a long time.... I was told on here buy other members it is actually for 1926 not 1910 .. I since bought a couple other anvils one 290 lb. Peter Wright and a 240 lb. Soderfors Paragon both very nice and both for much much less... JT
  10. thank you for the most part Frosty !! LOL it really doesn't matter on the age, just curious... I will look closer and try the chalk once I get it home... I was a little surprised that it wasn't getting the bids like I thought it was going to get... but it worked out in my favor.. JT
  11. thank you Fatfudd ! I was watching it , and after reading as much as I could about these anvils, and mostly very good comments about them I was a little surprised at what the final price ended up at.. kinda made me wonder if I was missing something about it.. JT
  12. thanks Lionel h, all I know about these anvils is what I've read on here.. I don't remember anything on aging them.. JT
  13. I bought this 240 lb. Soderfors Paragon Anvil today.. I don't have it in my possession yet, I should have it in about a week then I will thoroughly clean it and post more photos of it.. I think I got a good deal on it at $2.83 a pound.. does anyone have any idea what year it may have been made ?? thanks, JT
  14. Oh !! close to Gaylord.. around Atlanta, Hillman, Lewiston area !! its nice up there.. I lived in Gaylord for a little while.. I also have property in the U.P. on a Island outside of Sault Saint Marie ... I love it up there !! JT
  15. Hello littleblacksmith !! yes its way to tall for me.. lol.. the seller was much taller then me.. its on 3 blocks of wood and I need to take at least 1 off.. then see where that leaves it.. JT
  16. Thank you njanvilman !! that's nice to know.. as like stated before I hadn't seen them like this in my short time looking at anvils !! I've tried to read everything I can find on them but must have not seen or didn't remember reading that..as I was mostly interested in finding out about the early one at the time... I haven't taken it off the stand yet to weigh it and shorten the stand as its about 1 wood block to tall for me.. I'm thinking your correct about being in the 100 lb. range I'll try to weigh it tomorrow .. JT
  17. well I have this anvil at home now.. just looking it over at the sellers house I don't see any markings, numbers, or eagle.. it sure looks like a fisher to me.. I know some very early fishers didn't have markings, but this looks much later.. the later ones I've seen have the eagle and weight and fisher markings on them... does anyone have any ideas about this one ?? thanks, JT
  18. thank you njanvilman !! I have a early Fisher that's just a little smaller then this one that weighs 112 lbs. so I was just guessing with it being a little bit larger and the feet heavier looking it could be heaver.. JT
  19. Hi Frosty ! I'm not sure just yet.. I'm thinking possibly around the 150 range ?? JT
  20. well after my last eBay escapade if you have read my last post about "I bought an Anvil today" about my 290 lb. Peter Wright.. and the one that got away on the rotten eBay deal...... well life has its ups and downs... first up then down and now back up !! after I got back home from that experience I found this nice Fisher just listed and is nicer and was cheaper then that eBay dud... I pick this one up tomorrow !! JT
  21. WOW !! it only gets better.. I turned in a complaint with eBay about what happened and then got a message from eBay saying the seller canceled the transaction because I asked for a cancelation or something was wrong with my address !! WOW .. these guys are real dirt bags !! this story goes from good to evil it just a few days !! JT
  22. that's sounds more like the typical story for sure !! wait until I tell you my next story !! and that's great that you at least got your Grandfathers anvil even if it was a little smaller it was your Grandfathers and you can't beat the price !!! now for my story of today !!! well I had bid on a Anvil on eBay before I found my 290#er.. so I really didn't want the one I bid on.. I thought when I bid on it I had a fair chance to got it because they had a unreal shipping quote on it or local pick up.. it was at a antique shop 2 hours away from me.. well I ended up with the winning bid.. I emailed the shop and told them I would pick it up in person and pay cash on pick up. the shop is only open on the weekends or by appointments only.. I asked if I could pick it up today and they said yes that would be fine.. we set a time to be there and I took a half day off work and drove the 2 hours one way... the guy wasn't there.. I called him and he did come there... now... once in the shop the anvil was nowhere to be found !! the kid that meet me there tried calling his "boss" and he would not answer.... then called the "owner" and he didn't know why it wasn't there... then said.. the kids "boss" told him he sold it and its no longer there ??? it wasn't listed as being for sale anywhere else then eBay and the kid does all the eBay listings and informed both his "boss" and the "owner" it was on eBay and had been for over a week and had bids on it.. and told them it SOLD last night !!! all they said was well sorry its not here anymore.... JT
  23. Hear Hear !! I almost thought you were going to say he called and told you he sold it even though you were half way there !! its refreshing to find there are people that still stand by their word in this day and age !! glad for you that you scored it !! JT
  24. yes I was very lucky and did score that Peter Wright on Thursday !! the seller on this one was asking $1750.00 or best offer but just told me it sold today I don't know what the actual selling price was.... JT
