  1. I've gotten everything back together and oiled. Where do I need to adjust the crank to? Is it a personal preference or unit specific?
  2. Also, found it alittle surprising that one or two of the gears appear to be either wood or a similar density and texture plastic. I'm sure this isn't news to many but I hadn't encountered it before.
  3. Perhaps "fill" was a strong word. It does have cast into the side of it something to the effect of "fill to level of air cock". I figured that I would maintain it the same as my smaller champion until I heard different so I guess I'll carry on. I didn't know if I needed to put some kind of gasket into it to prevent that or not, that would have been my next question.
  4. Good news, the gear box was full of mud dawber blobs so that was easy to clean once I got the impeller off. Some of the shafts have a suprisingly light coat of rust so they are cleaning up pretty easily. What do I need to fill the gear box with? Same as my smaller champion?
  5. Yesterday I came into possession of a canedy otto blower with stand and fire pot. I haven't had the chance to open up the gear box yet but I'm guessing that the oil has turned to tar. My question is is the a source for replacement parts if some of the gear teeth are broken or something like that? Also, what oil should I used in it once it's all cleaned and polished?
  6. All of the tools are inline with the handles although if I'm honest I didn't think until after I posted that's all of the eyes of the tools are round and they will probably creep with use. Luckily one of the good points of this hobby is things can be reworked. When they start twisting i will brobsbly square up they eyes and handles
  7. As some know I've got a demo coming up on Monday and needed some tools for it. I ended up with what I hope will be a serviceable fuller, pritchell, straight punch and round punch. Handles were electric fence posts and punches were a coil spring from an axle.
  8. Thinking I'm going to make some horse shoes, cut nails and some leaves. Theoretically those should be doable in the time that I'm going to have.
  9. The screw is a piece of spring steel I had laying around that wasn't quite long enough to be used anywhere else. I got the idea for doing the veins that way from some of Jakob Faram's work.
  10. Got it shined up alittle bit
  11. I'm not much of a wine person but I'll have to before I give it away
  12. Chrismas party for nrcs board members is coming up and they have a white elephant exchange. Several of the members have expressed interest in things that I have made and I wanted to try something new. I like how this turned out, just hope there are some wine drinkers on the board
  13. Ashland Kansas, 30th of this month It's a small school but it would add up pretty quick. I'm not sure what I'll do for barriers yet, as far as I know they museum may have a plan already
  14. I said in my first post that the groups will be kindergarten through 6th grade. For the younger groups I have thought about just using clay, I may just use clay for all of them with finished examples in steel
  15. I figured I would have some wood laying around for a poor mans swage for the leaves if I decided to do them. Thanks for the advice that has and will come.
  16. I was asked by the local museum to give a talk and maybe demonstration about the craft for Kansas day. I have not spent a whole lot of time around children since I was one so I don't know what kind of things I can do to keep them intertwined and involved. I know that whatever I decide to do I'll need to have it prepped before hand and I'm not real sure how long I will have each group. ive thought about trying some of the Russian roses that were mentioned in the copper tulip thread or maybe some leaf keychains. What some other kindergarten-6th grade friendly ideas?
  17. It would mostly be used for hot cuts, possibly texturing. Eventually I would get/build a striking anvil for anything heavier but short term I'm still building my tool collection and don't want to have a pile of tools that had a purpose once but were replaced by something else.
  18. Is there any reason not to so long as you can keep the tools from turning? I'm getting ready to move most of my stuff to the barn at my house and the ASO that I have doesn't have a hardy hole but I do have a 4 1/2 inch vise. Is this an ok idea or should I build another stand for the hardy tools?
  19. Thanks Das, apparently it was good enough because I've been asked to make 3 more
  20. I am working on some bottle opener Christmas presents for the in laws and just got finished with a first attempt at inflaying copper into the openers and got to wondering what some good ways are to make the copper "pop" more. The star is on this is pretty terrible but it was free handed and this will not be the finished model I just wanted to see if the graver I made would work.
  21. This is a towel hook I knocked out today, not quite as square as I wish it was but I quit before it was done. Should work well enough and I'm going to be the only one to see it
  22. All I can say is that that looks pretty good except that every draw knife that I've worked with has had a much steeper bevel. I don't know that yours won't work but that doesn't quite look right to me. Aside from the bevel that is pretty pretty
