  1. Here is the raw lumber pictures and some progress. Sorry that they are upside down, I am not sure why this site does that. I also need to find out how you guys take such good photos!
  2. Blackfrog I might try and do the same thing but instead make it a wall hanging opener and then put my brothers fire house shield badge on it.
  3. Making hammers specifically a Brazeal Style rounding hammer.

  4. Ok thanks. They told me $12.50 for 100 pounds which is pretty cheap compared to what I was paying. Pallet crate is a good idea thanks.
  5. I will post a pic or the raw lumber. Basswood is the species. We use it because it is pretty soft and easy to carve, but we use some other woods at times too.
  6. Im goin to People's on friday. I will probobly only be able to get a couple of bags since I don't have too much cash or a place to put a ton. Thanks for the help
  7. Nice opener! Always was thinking of making a damascus opener once i get better! Great work! Also the forums work now!
  8. Hi, I'm heading up to the Allentown area in Pa with my dad who's dropping off a clock to some guy. We are coming from NJ on 78. Anyone know of a place I can find bituminous coal or smithing coal in that area that's not too far out of route? I can only find anthracite hear, and from my web search I can only find anthracite dealers. Thanks
  9. Cotton wood whimsical house I made from cottonwood bark
  10. Little whimsical bark house I carved from a piece of cottonwood bark.
  11. some stuff wont be able to be in the carving like all the tongs cause they are small and hard to carve but i will add a few. I thought of the same thing of putting a hammer on the anvil. I'll post pictures each time I carve it.
  12. Ok thanks that would be great. That sounds like a good price too.
  13. Thanks for the help everyone. I used a belt sander believe it or not. It is pretty hard to explain what I did but I will give it a go. I knocked down the corners at a steep angle moving the hammer around in a circle so that all the corners and edges were being grinded. I did this a lot and then I started to rouck the hammer in a circular motion to smooth it up and make it rounder. The best way to really find how to do it is to go out and grind it. It will come to you there. An angle grinder would have been better I think. Hope this helps
  14. Ok thanks. I will have to check out where Hamburg is and see how far it is. Do you know how much they cost? Also the Saltfork Craftsman is the one I was thinking of ordering too. Keep me posted if you guys order. Thanks
  15. My new project for woodcarving is a blacksmith shop relief. The piece of wood is a big chunk of 17in by 15-1/2in by 4in wood. Here is the picture of the shop I'm gonna carve: I'll post a pic of the final carving, which is gonna be a while
  16. ok thanks can't wait to forge a leaf with it. The only issue is that first I need to make a fuller to vein the leaves, then I can try both out. I am aiming towards the kind of one brazeal uses in his leaf keychain video. With the warmness, would t be a bad idea for me to take the handle off then re heat treat it to get it harder than it is?
  17. Heres a rounding hammer I made from a Harbor Freight 2.5 pound sledge. It got a bit warm and I hope the temper didnt come out. Also the grinds look a bit uneven, is this an issue? Thanks
  18. Hi, So I know that I don't need a swage block yet, but I'm one of those guys who likes to have everything planned ahead of time. So I see a wide variety of swage blocks of different designs. Theres the old ones, sawgeblock.com, salt lake city, some from centuar forge, and some form ken and son's. My question is what is the best most functional swage block for the price. I plan on making knives, carving tools, tools like hammers, and some decor I suppose. I guess a bit of everything. Which would be best, or am I better off asking a fab shop to make my own design? Thanks Sorry if this has been answered already, but from my research it hasn't
  19. I know that some groups sometimes do a bulk order of swage blocks, so if you guys ever do then let me know because I can see myself using one in the near future when I start to make gouges and hammers. Thanks
  20. that sounds so cool! If you can find a picture, I would love to see one. It seems that bottle openers can make a decent profit especially for someone like me who is only 13 and has no job.
  21. Which ones do do you get, mill? You are right I have heard the new Nicholson aren't that hard. Thanks for the help
