New sign installed
This is a sign I just finished installing on Sunday. The uprights are 8 x 8 - 10 foot long The top log is a 12 x 12 - 12 foot long - it weighs over 500# All the log joints are mortise and tenon. The sign is free-hand cut from 10 gauge plate. The rim around is 1/4 inch by 3 inch strap. The sign is 6 foot tall and 7 foot across. There is right at 1,000# of concrete in each footing for each post. I drilled and set 1/2 inch bolts into the concrete to hold the posts. Now the kicker.....the lady of the house loves the sign....but doesn't like the location. I called yesterday evening to see what they think...and she wants to move the sign. Oh and did I mention I hand dug the holes for the concrete footings and hand mixed the concrete? Oh well, this will add more cost to the sign. I may have to get a crane in to pick up the whole works.

220 miles and 3 days away...
Got the hammer picked up and dropped at Magpie Iron Mongers...that is my Uncle's smithy. I have to make a return trip to pick up the hammer. Oh the things a man will do to keep the Domestic Goddess happy! Looks like it will be a sweet little hammer. The left toggle arm has been brazed. I may just order a new one, but do any of you know if that is an acceptable repair?

I cut everything by hand with my Miller plasma. No CNC machine no watercut

Mega Mailbox
The mailbox is in place and they love it. Thought I would share what it looks like in place. I don't want to argue...but it is a Walleye. The customer is always right and they call it a Walleye! Got another commission yesterday for a business sign for a Veterinary office. Going to Canyon Ferry, MT tonight so I can go pick up my trip hammer in the morning...God is good and wants us to be happy!!!

It followed me home
I swung by the farm supply store here in town yesterday. They had a huge table of dicount items. Including a massive stack of DeWalt 7 inch flap disks. They were marked down to $8.40 then had an additional 20% off. $7 each, lots of the right grit and I had cash in hand. Felt like I cut a fat hog on the deal.

220 miles and 3 days away...
After multiple years of wanting and several years of looking.... a 25# LG has been found and purchased! I now have to practice the art of patience....like a small child waiting for Christmas.... The road trip begins Thursday evening and I should be in possession on Friday morning! It is going to need a good cleaning and attachment of a motor, but it moves free and easy. A question for other 25# LG owners...What size motor do you have on your hammer? What is the size of the pully you run on your motor? More pictures when I get her home.....

workshop from scratch!
Nice shop. If you get a minute take a few more picts of the surroundings. It would be great to see the surroundings that inspire!

My 50# LG going now
Nice work Frosty! Did you put any reinforcing in the concrete of your floor? Or do you think the timbers will be enough? I am in the market for a hammer myself and have an existing shop with rebar in the concrete, but I am curious if you feel you need more support than just the timbers? Thanks and have fun breaking the hammer in! JL

Comedy
Cow magnets are magnets that are boloced into the animals rumen. Cattle occasionaly will pick up random pieces of metal while grazing or being fed in a feedlot. The metal will tumble around in the rumen and cause pain. The animal will not produce much milk or gain well. The magnet of course attracts the metal and settles to the bottom of the rumen so it won't tumble about. The animal won't have any discomfort and the metal and magnets will be removed at processing "read slaughter."

Hydraulic Presses
I have also heard that beauty is in the eye of the BEER holder....so have one and my press doesn't look too bad! The Kubota we have is a 2500 - about a 30 horse 3 cyl diesel. It is a heck of a little tractor. We use the begebers out of it. I have been wanting to hook the press up to our 4430 John Deere to see if there is much difference in the hydralic pressure. The JD is a 130 horse and should have power to spare. However the cost of runing the JD compared to the Kubota is significant. Maybe just a test, but for the most part I am going to use the Kubota.

My 100 ton fly press
Nice! That is a heck of a squish machine right there. What are you going to do for tooling? Any built that you want to share pictures of?

Mega Mailbox
This is a commissioned mailbox. The clients go on longer trips from time to time and want to be able to lock up their mail and know it is weather and theft safe. This is all made from 10 guage plate. The main box is 24" square. The opening for the chute is 12" high and 14" wide. They love fishing for walleye and raise Australian Border Collies. They had an old dog that would go on the fishing boat with them and bat at the fish in the live well...untill the day they caught a Northern Pike and the fish bit the dog. They wanted a Ausie batting and barking at a jumping walleye. I am giong to paint the whole works with a black automotive paint. Just thought I would share and get some feedback. John

Very Nice!

Cheap and durable flap disc
The ones the last the best for me are the DeWalt ones. I use a LOT of 7 inch flap disks and have tried others, but always go back to the DeWalt ones. The farm supply store here in town carries them and I can usually pick them up for under $10 each

Common Sense Trip Hammer

Common Sense Trip Hammer
I saw an ad for a #2 Common Sense Trip Hammer. They didn't provide any information on the hammer. Do any of you have experience with one? Are they troublesome? Can you find dies?

Hydraulic Presses
Selden asked for some closer pictures of the press. I hope this helps. If anyone else uses a press in their work, I would appreciate any comments and maybe a view of some of the tooling you utilize. Thanks,

finished my PH
Very nicely done. I would like to see a video and more pictures from the side when you get a chance. I purchased Clay's Tire Hammer plans and have yet to start putting it together. More pictures would be a great asset.

Hydraulic Presses
These are a couple bowls I made this week using the steel balls and cylindar bases that I showed above. I haven't come up with a real clean way of putting legs on aside from welding. I tried to punch and rivet, but didn't like the results on the leg.
