  1. me and a buddy tried forging this. we got it slit just fine, but had a time drifting it. it could have been done, but being that i was trying to make money, and that i work at a machine shop, i ended up getting some more stock and milling the eye out.
  2. actually i don't think i am finished. more bevel on the faces and having the edges of the handle rounded more would make it a world better i believe. i think i'll do that.
  3. egads. i made this for some comic book fans. weighs about 65 pounds. the head is made from 4" Ty
  4. well, let's see. first of all, ya gotta understand i'm 18 years old, and a senior in high school. i work part time at a machine shop, and until recently i worked part time at a steak house as well. i've had steady blacksmithing business the entire 3 years i've been doing it, but i don't think i've come out very far ahead as far as money goes. it's still early. uhh, let's see. about the years ahead. they can go a few directions. i wanna work for myself eventually, do my own thing, but before that can happen i'll either go to tech school for machine tool technology, or find a professional blacksmith to work with. I gotta little collection of some nice pics of my better work, and will soon be calling people to talk.

  11. If he doesn't know anything about them, see if he will take scrap price.
  12. The side that has less bulge can be forged on to lengthen it, and equal out. . .. . And trust me, it doesn't take much to move it. You can spend all day chasing it back and forth, so hit once and check, rather than twice to find out you needed once.
  13. Man, if you like Jimi too, check out Stevie Ray's instrumental version of Jimi's song Little Wing. ..............BAD
  14. Today I have Jimi Hendrix's Blues album, some Stevie Ray, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and some Mozart stuff meant for guitar.
  15. putting water on the anvil face each heat helps to keep a cleaner surface by blowing off scale. I use this especially with welded tomahawks. The surface can be quite bad from the welding heats and the flux. forging on a wet anvil, paired with wire brushing before and after the anvil creates a clean surface in short order

  20. The ones at the folk school aren't given enough air to run at their capacity. If the big blu is the type of hammer you want, it's a very good one.
