  1. Heard at a tongs making workshop in Johnstown, PA. "You can't hit it if you can't hang onto it" ~ Pat Quinn
  2. Attended the Albert Paley auction online and picked these up last week. Need to buy a vfd for the grinder but only $100 for a Baldor with stand.
  3. Okay, I'll play! 60 lb swage/block anvil from GS Tongs, Hi, Glen. The anvil still rocks. 200 lb Fisher found in Western, MI.
  4. Ya, marcusb..half-moon pucks on both sides, and silicone or gasket paper where anvil meets stand.
  5. 1" plate, well casing legs filled with sand. Will bolt to floor when in it gets to new shop. Still working on mechanism for securing anvil, leaning toward a fitted 1" block tight against the base on both sides.
  6. Work in progress. Still working on ideas for securing it. Feel free to opine. Legs are well casing packed with oil/sand. Will bolt to floor when in position
  7. Great solution. This is giving me more incentive to mount a post leg vise near anvil height.
  8. Going for it. 7 years saving, dreaming and working out of a broken down unsuited space for hot metal. Perseverance and patience. Ran out of time to pour slabs and retaining wall this fall. No sweat, it can settle over winter. Resuming in spring. More pics to come. 16' x 24' when finished.
  9. 12lb, 3lb, 2lb, and a few more books than these. Making handles this weekend.
  10. Hello, Ladies and Gents. Signing in for the first time here from the Finger Lakes region of central NY. My metal forming exp. started beside my pops at a young age. -- mostly welding/fabrication. Looking for something new brought me to explore aluminum and brass sand casting projects over the last couple of years. Great fun for sure and forge tuning/tweaking is an obsession. Took a knife making class this past fall at The Steelyard in Providence, RI and fell in love with that form of metal work. Up to that point, I'd only used my anvil and hammer to straighten things out. Now I make knives (and horrible tongs) in any spare time I have. Can't get enough. heh. Have a couple of nice hammer heads coming from ebay for the holidays that I'll be making handles for out of some hickory I have air-drying at work. Excited for 2014. Looking forward to reading more here as I build a new workshop over the next year as the garage isn't cutting it. Cheers!
  11. Hey, Jason. Just north of you here near Syracuse. Also new to the -iforgeiron- community.
