  1. No, it will stay bare after the fashion of the sword version. I'm thinking of etching some designs in it though.
  2. I saw the last Hobbit movie a few weeks ago and fell in love with Thranduils sword, so I decided to try and make my own interpretation of a knife version. Made from 1084 H. Carbon. Blade is 9 1/4 inch with an overall length of 15 1/8. I put more work into the finish on the blade portion this time around to really get those deep scratches out and bring out the shine. I also finally received my makers mark stencils for electrochemical etching. Sharp enough to take hair off your arm. (Done with the lansky system). The blade has a slight warp to the right near the tip from heat treating. The bevel line is flawed into the classic smiley due to leaving too much material near the hilt. (even though I tried to evenly grind them in one pass at a time). So all in all, i'm semi-pleased with the result. I'm zeroing in my skills and hopefully soon I'll make a passable knife. Let me know if you guys see anything additional I could work on.
  3. Gorgious blade. I'm always excited to see what you make next. Keep up the good work.
  4. Oh my Holy God.....I would trade you part of my soul for that 7" feather chef. Your work is now the pinaccle of my knife making goals.
  5. For your 2nd knife?!?! It looks AMAZING. Looking forward to more.
  6. Nice knife. I like the walnut handle.
  7. Sound advice all around. Loneforge, I will remember that with the new carving knife I'm making. Charles, they both glide through tomatoes and cucumbers. I haven't tried an onion yet as I don't eat them (lol). The person that bought them told me she absolutely loves them and that they cut better than any kitchen knife she has (granted she only has crappy store bought knives but still it makes me smile that I've finally created something useful) Cheers.
  8. Thanks all! And I'm right there with you Charles. A blade is beautiful because it works, not because its clean or shiny. I can't wait to make more.
  9. 1084 H. Carbon Steel. Quenched in Motor oil. Tempered 450 for 2 hours twice. (I might dial it back next time to 425)
  10. If I could make anything HALF as good, I'd be satisfied. EXCELLENT work!
  11. My first attempt at that style of knife. I've made about dozen thus far. Only cut myself twice so far so I'm good for about another 6.
  12. My first attempt at a chefs knife. I got a new sharpening stone for my lansky file guide. Sharpness Level Up! Be careful when cleaning your knives for depicted reasons. Once I get it handled and finished, I'll make a post with both of them giving the full specs.
  13. I have YET to make myself a pair of tongs. I don't own a punch. Pretty sad I know.
  14. Mother of god. So large. You could weld on a plate on the bottoms and turn them into book ends. Enormous, awesome, book ends.
  15. Thanks gents :) I'm almost finished its counterpart.
  16. Small kitchen knife commissioned by a friend of mine for Xmas. 1081 H. Carbon Steel from NJ Steel. Oak handle. Sharpened with file guide system, leather strop, glass hone. Tried my hand at Electro-etching. I could have put on a few more layers of nail polish to prevent the rouge scratches. I need some small files so I can learn to make a blade bolster for a completed look. The blade is almost completely straight. I've been having some trouble keeping my lines as I don't own a flatter yet. I do the best I can with my hammers/mallets and swocker.
  17. Holy CRAP!!! That's a monster. I would love to see the pics.
