  1. In the shipyards they used big sledges to drive the wedges on the building ways. at 35 Lbs it is not to likley you will be swinging that all day. My arm hurts thinking about it.
  2. Jim, Working chain on the flat. Also I have good luck with a square stock goose neck in the hardy hole, they hold the best. The round stock models in the prictle never seem to hold that well. Good luck.
  3. Use gear oil 90W in warm weather. In cold weather cut it with 10W30. The old blowers had jute packing at the casing seal. Lighter fluids like auto trans will go right through the fiber packing. Godd luck and enjoy.
  4. Nice Job, real quality set up. Good luck
  5. Tell the resident expert that the early settlers used cut off wheels without the motors. LOL and Merry Christmas.
  6. The company of great women, my wife Karen Grace, good health and a morning greeting from my shark dog Jake. A new full face safety shield, a new auto dark welding helmet, really nice one. Bunch of HD tall T shirts. A new Carhart jacket. Upon request, Santa got my wife a small honda Gen set that she can use at the camp, she loved it. A good looking chunk of bone-in prime rib for supper that we will enjoy with some friends that have no place to go for the holiday. A few hot toddies and I'd call this a great Christmas. All the best to you and yours gents. Peter
  7. Paul, A great come on my friend. Cheers and a very Merry Christmas to you, yours and all in attendance. Peter
  8. Merry Christmas to you to and all the iron bangers out there. Peter-Carrabassett Valley Forge-
  9. rtread, I made a few of these 4x4 stands out of hemlock. It is very strong, quiet and it adjusts to any irregularities in the deck surface. the chain hold fast keeps the ring down. Height is your own preference, get it right though and save your elbow from abuse.
  10. 4x4 anvil stand, 1/2 in through bolts, end plates, chain hold fast.
  11. ]Today its about 42 inches of fresh pow-dah. White Christams week in Maine.

  14. Tim, It looks like a fine commision, you and the client should be pleased. On the fixed side panels, why did you not include the dog bars as you have on the swinging front panels? It just appears to be a out of balance compared to the front. The overlap joints are a nice detail. I am not sure about the heel bar corner connections. Do you anticipate any sagging? Did you preload the gates or build in sag adjustement? Some shops build the big gates considerably out of square to beat the sag.
  15. Hey Rusty, Welcome aboard. Florida has the weather advantage today, enjoy. Merry Christmas. Peter
  16. In Maine last week, .375 round stock, hot rolled, $ 0.79 per linear foot. This includes tax. I do my own pick up so there is no delivery fee.
  17. Paul, The forks make excellent hammers. I have several in the shop. Dereck Glazier of New England Metal offered a great class on traditional tool making at the New England School, he used the forks as hammer stock.
