  1. very interesting, thanks for the information, sounds like a good place to live!
  2. There is also the Stainless Steel variety for the outside, at least at the elbows for corrosion if it turns out to go outside again.
  3. The used quickly I am not sure about a lump of it hangs around for a while, but overnight in a freezer it will dissapear, its about -100 F so you need to be a bit careful handling it. Also don't put it in a sealed container it will expand and blow up.
  4. Yes it is used for cleaning the outside of buildings. Its not that cheap around here though, not sure what it would do on metal in particular. I think you would have to take in to consideration it will displace the oxygen with co2 so you couldn't use it inside a small area without good ventilation. Other than that I would be a cool setup to have I bet.
  5. Thanks, I will look into that more, I also am thinking about what finnr said about the contrast, and opening the rose up more would help.
  6. Thanks Ice, I think the link on the bottom might be wrong or maybe I am missing something.:D
  7. Thanks for all the support! Yes the picture in that post is what I used for the idea. I couldn't see the back or bottom so I was not sure how to finish that part out. I kept the roll tight but in the end on the bottom I ended up with what looked like rolled metal ( which it is). I thought maybe if you made a cup like arrangement, to slide up the stem to cover the bottom and looked like the outside petals, might work. Maybe even add some leaves to that part you slide up somehow. But thats another day. thanks again
  8. also couldn't get very deep with the wire brush, is there a chemical cleaner that would shine up the inside?
  9. well my first real anything I guess except for some tools and fooling around. I couldn't figure out what to do with the back, so I tigged it solid. Thought I would post the pics as I have gotten so much help here, thanks.
  10. I had always read that 12" round was better, as the circular motion of the smoke makes a square round any way in a matter of speaking. Is there any chance you can go out the back of the building you are in? There are also forced air systems you can use in the chimney I think?
  11. I'm curious as to what was the length of the original rod in the rose picutre? thanks.
  12. Yes can't wait to see a picture of this!
  13. Ok I see what you are saying. The hammer weighed in at 3#lbs. and 4 oz. with the handle.
  14. is it to keep the thickness of the blade as large as you can? thanks.
  15. If you were going to use the oven what temperature would you shoot for? Or do you have to know more about the material you are tempering. thanks for the info, I will do one of the above methods.
  16. Thats a good idea funk, I have a couple of other ones and I will do that with one. The gas axe i think is the oxy/acet right?
  17. Thanks john, you are right that is the way to go, I will have to figure out how to get some help or look for someone with some more "manly" tools, ha ha. thanks for the info.
  18. I think I made a $2 hammer in the end, I don't know how it will feel after handled, so I want to make a handle and temper it and try it out and then maybe grind to get it balanced. I know its got more weight in the peen than the front which is probably a bad idea, plus its a wacky shape to boot! But I learned a lot. #1 is that I will forge the next one, as I picked up some material today that I can use. thanks for all the help. I take any suggestions as constructive criticism! :)
  19. Ok so here is what is left of the #8 pound sledge, I have not weighed it yet, (But I would guess under 4 pounds) but wanted to temper it tonight, I was hoping to get some ideas on the best way or at least a good way. thanks for the help.
  20. don't buy chinese, is the only thing we can do. In the end the consumer decides what business wins or looses. Having said that, I just bought a chinese portaband saw, and it works quite well.
  21. Nicely done, I also have a bunch of ball and peen, you have given me some good ideas. I was kind of dubious of squishing all that steel in a 8 pound, but seeing that you have done it, its more encouraging. By the way how many heats did it take to do the large one, and what size hammer did you use to do the majority of the banging? thanks.
  22. thanks, one of the reason I am doing this is I bought 4 at $2 a piece. I also have 2 10#lb. and one #20lb., and two #8lbs. that have handles and I use. I was thinking of cutting off a couple of pounds to start with from the front and back, so from your suggestion I should start with about 4 pounds or so. Thanks I will see this weekend how the bandsaw works. A file will cut it now.
