  1. Welcome trapperdan. You will find most people here with the same urge. But you've come to the right place. Many knowledgeable people more than willing to share what they know. Enjoy the site.
  2. Very nice Smokeman. I'm sure your brother will love it.
  3. Welcome flat creek! We're glad you're here. Enjoy the site. We do!
  4. Yes it is Larry. Like I've said before, this site is a wealth of information.
  5. Hey Larry. I remember this picture! I saw it last night. Cool picture! I saved it on my computer for reference.
  6. Hey there caver95. Welcome to the site ( and to blacksmithing ). I agree with both Glenn & jimmy. It is fun & infectious. But you have come to the right place. Plenty of knowledgable people & loads of info. What part of Fla are you from? I'm in Tampa. Doesn't seem to be as many blacksmiths in Fla as in other areas of the country.
  7. Thank you guys for the welcome. I appreciate it. :)
  8. Welcome Larry! Good to have you here. I am a beginner here also. There are quite a few of us around. It sounds like you are off to a good start on your smith ( and your treadle hammer ). Share some pics if you get the chance. You will find many knowledgable people here who are ready & willing to share their experience(s) to aspiring blacksmiths.
  9. Thank you Pete for bringing this subject up. I am constantly amazed at the wealth of info on this site. I too run a gas forge. I have to admit, I've never thought of the risks that were brought up here. I will definitelly pick up a co detector or two for my shop. It seems to me that a detector is probably the first ( & most important ) tool that that should go into any shop. Thanks again to Pete & all those who have shared their experiences & knowledge.
  10. Welcome Matt !! There are quite a few beginners on this site ( I am one also ). You will find many friendly & helpful people here. Make sure you check out all the various sections of this site. There is a WEALTH of info to be had!
  11. Thanks for the tip AM. I need to find some also. Show us some pics on what you make with it.
  12. Nice job ApprenticeMan & FredlyFX !! Consider your designs stolen. Of course you know that we all have a responsibility to thoroughly test each & every bottle opener that we make to make sure the quality control is there! LOL
  13. Awesome! Makes everything I do seem like so much child's play! LOL
  14. It humbles you a bit, doesn't it? We have so much & yet want more. He has very little & makes do. ( And 8 children yet !! )

  19. Hey there John. Welcome! I am also a "newbie" to smithing. There are many of us around, it seems. The "old timers" ( LOL ) are very nice & helpful! Happy hammering! :)
  20. Hey everyone! I'm MRobb ( Mitch Robb ). I live in Tampa, Fla. and am also a beginner to blacksmithing. I took a basic blacksmithing course a year or so ago & have been doing my own thing since. I plan on attending another class soon. I got into blacksmithing sort of by accident. I inherited an old anvil some years back and decided to build a forge "just to see if I could". Well, I'm hooked! I thoroughly enjoy smithing & can't wait to build a permanent shop. Thanks to all the friends I've made here at Iforgeiron. Your help & support of us "newbies" is appreciated! I've posted a few pics & hope to post many more. Thanks again!!
  21. Great looking forge, Sam. Post some pics on what you make with it!
