  1. These are made of heavy material aprox 1/4" thick. I dont think 1 hr is possible unless made from thin sheet metal. smith out
  2. One thing I like to do is a "pre install" before everything is finished/painted. That works out any bugs or small adjustments before final install. Like your transition around the corner. Not always practical in all situations though.
  3. 100 lbs sound quite a bit light for something that size. I would guess that would be closer to 500 lbs depending on holes, I figure 60% air space. That size steel block is 1200 lbs if solid.
  4. Phil, John, Any thoughts on what the cause may be if not the slop in the bearings?
  5. Larry, thanks for posting about the crank bearing. While you have the shaft out do you see any way to drain the oil in the bearing pockets? I have nightmares about dirt and grit getting in there with no way to ever get it out. I guess also I will be getting into the lower bearing on 2b soon :(
  6. CNC is "computer numeric control" which can be applied to virtually any machine on the planet. This use happened to be a mill.
  7. Is the tap-miss something inherent with these hammers? My 2b does that as well and someone long ago said it was the rebound of the first hit that caused the second to miss. I am not convinced that is true but it is what I was told. It may be my imagination but I think I am getting 3 different hits in a repeating pattern, all at very light blows, tap-light tap-miss repeat......
  8. In theory the two piece takes less pounding on the frame and mechanics due to the anvil not transfering any blow energy, but in reality?? One piece may be easier to sell as to the ease of installation. Nazel 1 piece hammers command a premium (15-25%?) over the two piece counterparts. smith
  9. I know you do not want repair this part, but for those less experienced can you show some pics of the broken part for education purposes? Thank you in advance smith
  10. I fount the invoice for the supplier: pex tubing store, or http://www.pextubingstore.com/ They are in hempstead NY I used the red tube 1/2" oxygen barrier Here is the best place to learn anything you want about radiant heating (same link as before) http://www.radiantdesigninstitute.com/index.html
  11. Did you look into the link I posted earlier? In it there should be a link to a great supplier of all things radiant heat. I would bet it is way cheaper to get from them than your local place but.... There are multiple types of pex tube some not good for radiant floors. I think 1/2" id is what you want.
  12. A little brass follower under your spring would be a great addition.
  13. I can look down the pipe as I did for Dave in the next few days.
  14. I was told to use "chrome tanned" leather for the seals of these machines- supposed to last much longer. I need to do it on mine but am reluctant because it just works great with a little blow by.
  15. Dave, Glad to help. You are doing us nazel owners a big service with the info you put out. I will have to look in a 2b and see if it looks similar, never even thought about what was in there before you asked. Have you ever changed the oil in your main bearings or is it just keep adding new? smith out
  16. Dave, I took some measurements without unbolting anything yesterday. I hope it is somewhat helpful even if its not everything. The muffler is 22" tall, the lower 12" are parallel sides, the upper 10 " taper to a 2" outlet hole in the top. The top of the cone is 12" below the top of the muffler and the bottom of the cone is rounded with just a small 3/16" or so hole probably to not collect oil. The 1" blade of the tape seemed to fit almost to the very bottom of the inside of the cone and is about 22" down from the top of muffler. The gap around the OD of the cone and the ID of the muffler is 1/4"- 5/16", the cone is not exactly centered and both parts are just raw cast. Wall thickness on the cone is about 1/4" and as a guess the mufflers wall about 1/2" with a 6 5/8" OD r smith
  17. I think of salvaging as the act of getting used materials, such as pulling silo bands from a rubble pile... repurposing is more like using a maytag washing machine engine to power a go-cart. As blacksmiths EVERY piece of metal we forge is by definition repurposed because we are changing its size, shape, etc... smith out
  18. Thank you for the update and good luck in the yard There is a small chance I might be able to get you measurements on a real 3b cone and muffler but not sure. smith
  19. Yes diacro, maybe more accurate for production than hosfeld but I dont think as versatile. Both are GREAT benders.
  20. Dave Wow that looks great, thank you for posting it. Do all the nazel hammers have that type of cone in the exhaust? r smith
  21. Rule #1 of the georgia guidstones- Maintain the world population at 500,000,000. that is 500 million people. Who knows how many populate the earth currently? Not to mention the 6-7 million increase each month which is a united nations statistic! http://www.medindia.net/patients/calculators/worldpopulation.asp
  22. If you want the answer then I suggest doing a search for it on here or even a google search may work better to find things in here. This has been discussed in depth many times. search for lining a forge, homemade refractory...etc..
