  1. Does the knocker have a striker plate or just bang on the door?
  2. My thoughts as well. I'm not even sure you need the wood backing. And I don't think I like the brass screws. Maybe acorn nuts or black hex bolts perhaps?
  3. Interesting. I might have to make a couple of those.
  4. I'd have them swing outward or have them slide to the sides. You might need to adjust the posts, add wheels to the gates and add two new posts if you slide them, along with some landscaping.
  5. I would think that the vendors would be upset that you are using a gimmick to skirt the rules and make sales.
  6. Since there is a safety issue for people, I'd recommend that you don't do it halfway. I'm not clear as to how the drain is set up. Is it going through the side of the embankment? Or is it vertical in the pond? Or is it a catch basin on top of the embankment? A quick goggle search found a lot of 12" grate covers. If you want to make something, maybe use angle iron or square tube with flat stock and bolt it all together. Or cut it all out and pay someone to weld it up.
  7. It'd be nice if you had a credit so that people would know they are handmade instead of picked out of a catalog.
  8. I like that you showed your mistake. Makes me feel like I'm not the only one. :)
  9. I think something like repoussee or similar would give you the best sound. I'd imagine they want a low deep tone and without the mass, you won't achieve that. The symbol is this:
  10. That's when you tell them to cite you and then have the judge slap the crap out of the city lawyer when it comes before him (if the city lawyer lets it go that far).
  11. It was interesting that the japanese work out of a tub in the floor.
  12. The distribution box on my BIL's septic system was clogged with roots. We decided he needed a tool to get them out. Fifteen minutes later it's done. Needed handles for the new cover. Banged 'em out. Probably saved him 500 dollars.
