  1. Yes indeed that piece came from a wagon made in the 1800's and that part had been strapped to a piece of wood on the wagon that had been in contact with wet ground in eastern North Carolina. So yes decades of rust.
  2. Okay it's been a while since I posted any work. I've been really busy with other things that have kept me out of the forge. Today I played out there all day. Here is a coat rack that I made from pieces of an old wagon that was made in the late 19th century by Moline. The strapping U used for the backing was so rusted I nearly left it in the woods where I salvaged the wagon glad I kept them. The board was hand hewn and hand planed from a maple tree that blew down on my property. T'was fun to make.
  3. Interesting. Will keep a look out.
  4. Stayed home all day yesterday due to the storm. All we got was a lot of rain and some medium strength winds so I lit the forge. The paper towel holder had broken a while back so I made this replacement. The main bracket is made from a piece of bar from an 1800's moline plow co. wagon I salvaged. The towel holder is a large dowel with steel pins in the ends.
  5. That is one cool handle. I Really like the snout and the pineapple twist body.
  6. yes I am actually going to go visit a craft fair Saturday at the local Lutheran church where my wife is the secretary. Addiction.... yes!
  7. No I am a Pastor by trade and (long story short) I was burning out. I could not figure why so I consulted with some really close friends and my mentor and after a few months they concluded that from my background (industrial trades/ carpentry, house framing, etc...) I am used to seeing the finished product of my labor which is usually not the case in ministry. If a couple spends 15 years ruining their marriage it ain't getting fixed over night. So they suggested a hobby so I could put my hands on something I'd accomplished. All that said my wife is constantly telling me I need to go to a craft show. By the way what do you sell the scroll candle holders for. (If it's okay to ask of course) Bill
  8. Thanks that means a lot to a rookie especially from the guy who posted the how-to video.
  9. Saw these made on you tube so I decided to give them a try.
  10. hmmmmmmmm.... I hope whoever goes after that anvil sees what you guys noticed.
  11. Interesting. That is helpful to know. My Uncle has a 100 pound PW I have been after for a few years.
  12. Yeah I noticed that. I wonder if the pritchel hole was filled in or if the anvil is a pre-1840 like most non-pritchel anvils. I have an I. Hill that has no pritchel but my Paragon does so it's not an issue.
  13. http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/tls/3268063563.html Would have been a good buy if I had the $600 to spare.
  14. Say, has anyone ever made a croze cutter for grooving a barrel or bucket to receive the head? I found this one on ebay and it looks like it would be fun and pretty simple to make. It seems to have 4 knives cut onto it and one router to finish up the groove/ croze. The iron itself just mounts in a jig style plane to keep the depth and angle correct while cutting the croze/ groove in the barrel staves. Anyone ever try making this?
  15. Wear all natural fibers. A polycotton shirt may just burst into flames and leave you with a prize!
  16. Is there an ancient battle advantage to having the rounded tip on the sword?
