  2. omg I just read it........perhaps someone else could fill the void?
  3. About four years ago, two brothers were posting on this Forum about developing an American-Made induction forge for the masses. What ever became of their efforts? Did they ever launch? As I recollect, one of the brothers was an electrical engineer.
  4. This demo is for the folks who find struck tools at flea markets in bad shape. Flatters, handled punches, set hammers, top swages, etc., that have the struck ends mushroomed and splayed. DO NOT GRIND THE SPLAYED ENDS OFF, for they shorten the tool and therefore cut back on the longevity of your struck tool, making it shorter and shorter. Instead, heat up the mushroomed part, apply a flux, then SLOWLY heat up that part to an incandescent welding heat and hammer the splays back together again, forge welding it. Seeing is believing, and feeling is the real thang... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FK3gG1XlqxA
  5. I manufacture caulking irons for the plumbing industry
  6. As many folks know, I forge tools for a living. On weekends, I give private lessons. I get a phone call, there is a Federal Air Marshall on the phone, wanting me to teach him how to forge killing knives, because it is far safer to slice a terrorist than to use a sidearm, risking blowing a hole in the fuselage. Long story short, he forged a group of nice blades, bought a forge and anvil and is now selling shivs to his coworkers.
  7. the original photos disappeared, so for the good of the forum, reposting one
  8. Here is a recently acquired anvil, a 455 pound columbian. 36 inches long six inches wide. Deafening ring. 85 percent ball bearing rebound. Now for the good part, how I got it! I have a business website. Some lady calls me, telling me she just bought a mansion on four acres. In the woods, 400 yards down a steep hill, she has an old blacksmith shop. She to demolish it because of termites. I ask her how big the anvil is, and she says "about 175 pounds, and you can have all the contents for free". Wife and I jump in the Tahoe, with me all excited. I got more excited when I saw the shop. 455 pound columbian, two champion 400 blowers, and three brand new humongous graphite crucibles! Now for the bad part. Her property was muddy, and we couldn't drive down to the shop because of the cesspool field. So muddy the ha nd truck wheels sank into the mud. Crestfallen, my wife offers to roll the anvil up the hill with me, sommersaulting the anvil head over heel for 400 yards, right through the mud and the cesspool feces. After 4 hours, we get the anvil to the back of my car. How the heck do I get it onto the tailgate! My wife spies a 40 foot aluminum ladder. Nice ramp she says!
  9. here is my 8 inch peter wright weighing in at 240 lbs on the hoof. The purple and green vise is a five incher weighing 65 pounds for comparison
  10. lol. anvils do attract anvils, especially if folks within a 300 mile radius KNOW you are seeking them
  11. I get a phone call from some guy who just bought a house. 400 yards away is a blacksmith shop riddled with termites, that his wife wants demolished. Long story short, he gave me this 455 pound columbian! He also gave me two champion blowers, five huge brand new graphite crucibles, a leg vise, and a colonial stake anvil!
  12. I have been so busy in my shop forging tools, I lost 70 lbs. Makes my 700 lb. Hay Budden look bigger here is the before picture, look how thin my face got in the above post
  13. at the risk of being "callous", my hands are so callused from blacksmithing, I accidentally sometimes touch a hot piece of iron on my palms, and do not feel a thing!
  14. I visited the Ashokin Hammer in yesterday for the first time, taking a day off from work. What a nice group of guys and a wonderful venue! Thanks for making me feel so welcome!
  15. Demonstrator Matt Gilbert is going to demonstrate how to make a fancy grill for a door or window, I am going to demonstrate forging a door latch from Albert Sonn's Early American Ironwork, while Ashe Replogle is going to demonstrate basic blacksmithing techniques for youngsters and teenagers.
  16. I am currently trying to make a decision whether or not to buy a distant anvil sight unseen. It is a peter wright. All I know about the anvil is that it is 31 inches long, and seventeen inches high. How heavy do you guys think it is?

  18. Wild West City proudly presents this Charter Hammer-In on October 13, from 10-6.........................be there or be square! Flyer for October 13, 2013 Blacksmith day @ WWC.doc
  19. Steve, I have 16 tons of coal currently. He still has the coal for sale...............a golden opportunity for those who cannot find coal for their forges. BTW, the forge is set up and functional now. That hood you saw was a spare, I have the original cast iron one attached to the assembled forge already. I sold the extra hood you saw to my student, as well as the rivet forge pan you undoubtedly saw. He also bought the remainder of the tongs from kevin, as well as that real nice handled punch you left there. There is ANOTHER guy in Ridley Park who has a ton of blacksmith stuff, I will post that info after I try to buy it!
