Steve Sells
I have just been informed that BIlly Merrit, one of the modern pioneers of pattern welding and forging meteorites, has passed on, let us ring our anvils in memory of a wonderful man. ThomasPowers
I'll ring mine with the cadence Emmert Studebaker once taught me. Billy was an awesome pattern welded steel forger. I learned a lot from the time he demo'd at the IBA conference and looking at his display table(s) at Quad-State. Fair winds and safe travels Billy! Glenn
I met Billy at a conference in Indiana several years ago. He had both a smithing hammer and a pair of tongs he made fro Damascus. Beautiful work and workmanship. He later used both the hammer and tongs at the forge during a demo just to show they were working tools. Our condolences to the family and friends. Frosty
Bon voyage Billy! I'll say a few prayers for you and those you left. I look forward to attending a demo on the other side. See you there Frosty The Lucky.
ThomasPowers
I'm guessing he and Tubal Cain will be demoing fluxless forge welding at room temperature...
Frosty
I'm expecting half a degree above absolute zero. For the beginner class. Frosty The Lucky.
