divermike
Goatman, thanks for the pdf, I have been doing roses for 2 years now, and been giving some thought to doing thorns, your way seems practical. My thought was to make a special punch and divot out the stem, but what to do with the crater? Once again, thanks, I'll give it a go! TASMITH
That is excellent! You never see thorns added to most roses that people make but if your are going for a little more realism adding the thorns are necessary. Well thought out and executed! MRobb
Great idea! Like Tasmith said, you never see anyone doing that. Looking forward to seeing pics. Looks like a good idea for a Blueprint too!
ChrisB
Cool stuff! Add some pix and you'll have a nice BP

bill83
I saw a guy torch weld a few carpet tacks onto a rose stem--came out purdy good. It was quick and dirty and worked.
Frosty
Nicely done Goatman, thanks for the tip. I'd like to suggest signing sketches so you get credit. For the sketch if not the idea anyway. Frosty
Archie Zietman
That's a really interesting way to do it! The way I've seen others do it is to use a chisel to pull out little thorns on larger stems. Shallow (acute angle w/ stock) cut and progressively get closer to a 90 degree angle, like cutting out animal's ears from the bar.
Dave Leppo
The result. If one spent a little more time, they could a bit more realistic.
divermike
I have found that the idea is what lends reality, if the work sends the message, the mind of the beholder does the rest, well done.
